Why is it each year we have this plowing day and everyone has fun while
I work trying to get things to run again. Right now the only thing I can count on is the old 37 A to start and run. It has steel rear wheels so the tires aren't an issue. CC Case has a flat front tire, 70lp needs water pipe seals, 59 needs a crankshaft, 70d runs great if I pull it. On and on there are always issues. Does anyone ever get tired of the work. Or am I just getting to old and busy to enjoy. I am going to sell some of my headaches. Just frustrated. Give me an hour in the seat plowing and it will come back why it is worth it.

Dan,

I have a small cow/calf operation on 150 acres of hills and woods. I have a little over 20 acres of hay that I put up in square bales.

My bunch of equipment is not nearly as extensive, nearly as big, nearly as complicated, or nearly as expensive as most mid-west farmers. But I swear, every dang thing on my farm (including myself) is in some greater or lesser state of disrepair. The front end of my Ford 2000 tractor is spread all over one bay of my machine shed right now getting a rebuild of the front axle pin/housing. etc. etc.

Sometimes I wonder why in the world I mess with this old stuff. I lose money almost every year on my farm operation. But then, one day happens when things go right, and I decide I'll just keep going until I can't go any more.

Farming - you gotta' love it.

I hear you. I just finished a discing job on a small 3 ac parcel, for someone who wants it to look nice as he is selling it. I am loaded up,and stop for gas. This big motor home pulls up for gas also. The guy looks about my age (66). I am covered with dust with my old truck, and tractor. I thought to my self I should just quit doing this. If I wasen't doing this, keeping my old stuff running what would I be doing instead? Stan

How far are you from Franzen's in Monmouth? Thinking about going up there to the consignment sale in Baldwin? If not too far away, I might drop in and take some pictures of you guys having fun. Chris

the problem you all have is "no horses" they always start-- can go places a tractor wont go-- when the tractor wont go-- and the front end never is spread all over the shop-- just kidding guys-- i too have a tractor i plow with-- and im glad that the people who have horses to use- do it because we like them-- hang in there it will work out-

Given the constraints of time, it looks like you'll be pulling with the 70D. Let us know how it turns out.
