Tractor Recommendation

Seems like I'm either in snow up to my hatbrim or mud covering my southern exposure.

Bought this tractor a few years ago on a whim 'cause I was tired of yanking hitch pins all the time.

Gotta tell ya, it never fails to start and this old mule gets 'er done! Think it's my new "favorite". :>)

The Battle of Hastings? William the Conqueror's troops killed King Harold II of England?

I just always wondered why IH put that number on a tractor, except it fit their numbering scheme and no one thought of the history.

We (actually it was my Dad's, but the stuff was all conflabugated together) had one-a-them, 'cept it was a black stripe; stood out like a sore thumb amongst all the green uns. Since I don't trash other people's colors..........been having a lot of weather, lately, a'int we? :>))

Naw,

That was on the 966. I haven't done anything to the 1066 except pour fuel in it.

Think I might break down and service the ol' dog this year tho. :>)

They were hung up on he number 66 weren't they. I wondered if anyone stayed away from the "666s" for obvious reasons. It wouldn't have bothered me but I know that it would a lot of people. Reminds me of a bible belt company that purchased a new white Puma helicopter from Aerospatiale. Their pilots (all "born again") were in training along with some pilots from one of the big casinos that had also purchased a Puma. One night, the casino pilots painted triple 6's on the inside of the engine cowlings. The born again pilots refused to fly that helicopter until those engine cowlings had been replaced. Not quite the end of the story. That helicopter was later purchased by Donald nnalert who had it painted black with "Ivana" in gold lettering on the side. That helicopter later burned to the ground while starting up. No one was injured. The Donald now flys around in an S-76.

It never bothered me to pull the hitch pin. Hooking up the next implement was always a pain, as I always had to do it by myself. Some of those Pioneer quick disconnects can be miserable things to work with.

For sure, many stayed away from the devil's number. To top it off, when the 666 was first out a puller in the Dome had one flip over backward for all to see.

I prefer green, wife inherited her dad's MF 180. Been putting in a lot of time looking over a red hood lately. Have to admit, it does get the job done. Spent last two days pulling 4 16"s, Tomorrow it's going to be dualed up and pulling a wheel disk. Whatever gets the job done. Don't start any color wars with me, I drive 'em all!

Allan:

Never noticed before, your 1066 is one of a kind.

Who put the black stripe on the LH door? It isn't on the other one.

I agree with they will always start. Just wish I could convince mine to sip fuel a little easier. 1066 and Ford 5000 row crop are not even in the same ball park on fuel burn. The 5000 is capable of running all the hay equipment, but STILL have power steering issues with it, so it is limited to "home" use only.

I kinda wondered that too, similar to the 13th floor of a building, usually they skip that and call it 14th. Caterpillar built large scrapers, model was 666, think I've got some photos tucked away somewhere.

A little like the staunch nnalert who owned the local gas station/ grocery when I was a kid- ordered a new Ford, and it came with the licence plate LBJ xxx- He tried to refuse delivery, but they already had his money. He drove it for years, and I always smiled when I saw that license plate and remembered the huge flap it caused.
