Case 1816C Skid Loader at local auction

Twice a year I rent a small skid steer to strip stalls and some other chores around here. Usually works out to ~$180 for a weekend of use. This little Case is up for auction this weekend with 3 buckets.

Anybody know anything about these beasts like how old it might be, things that break, are parts available, etc. I know I could find more uses for one if it was around all the time, but don't need another money pit either.

Thanks,

kirk

THEY WERE BUILT FROM 1981 TO 1987 AND USED A 2 CYLINDER ENGINE- AS FAR AS PARTS DRIVE MOTORS AND PUMPS ARE AVAILIBLE= PUMPS ABOUT 1800.00 EACH AND IT TAKES 2= DRIVE MOTORS ARE ABOUT 1000.00 EACH AND IT TAKES 2= PERSONALLY I WOULD LOOK FOR SOMETHING NEWER= THE 1840 AND 1845C HAD CUMMINS ENGINES AND WERE REAL POWER HOUSES COMPARED TO THE 1816C YOU ARE LOOKING AT

we had one for a while. could have just been ours but it was real jumpy, tough to drive smoothly. it definately had its limits, but for small tight spaces, it was nice. much smaller vs the 1845, and better vs. a scoop shovel.

might be a decent buy as most folks want quick tach, aux hydraulics and diesel.

don't know if this helps or not but know where there is a OMC Mustang unit 1375 lift rate good unit and has brand new kubota diesel engine just install. make some 0ne good cheap unit looks to me like. I don't need it other wise would take it. $4000.00 all he is asking

We have one and pretty much have redone it end to end. We tend to use industrial parts suppliers were possible. We upgraded the engine to a honda 20 horse and it will do anything it is designed to do at mid throttle. We also have a bale spear to stack 4X4 bales 3 high (700 pounds). Good little worker for its size. It is nowhere near as useful as an 1845 would be, but we have a back hoe and loader tractor for heavy work.

Don't let the prices red belley quoted scare you. You can get a rebuilt pump for like $400 and a drive motor for less. Bigger machines have bigger pumps and they cost even more. Just make sure the hydro's are good by pushing up against a tree or tractor and make sure each side can spin the tires, preferably with some load on the bucket. It should spin them fairly easy. If one side seems a little soft, also check to see if it tracks straight driving it. Push the sticks fully ahead and go a few hundred feet. Do the same in reverse. It should track fairly straight. I have had probably a dozen or more of them, pretty decent machines, especially the c series with the twin cylinder engine, just be sure to check out the hydros.
