Plug wire??? OT a little

Hey folks,
my ATV has a coil with the plug wire (wire center) molded in. It got against the exhaust and burnt. Think there is a problem with splicing in another piece of wire that I could extend enough to route away from the pipe?

Thanks, Dave

I use a piece of rubber gas line tubing and either temporarily remove the plug cap, or split it and put it over the bare wirw, then tape it closed.

Long as the wire is solid, just splice , solder, and insulate as suggested above. don't go crazy on the lenth, but 6" or 8" won't make any difference (Note again this is solid wire right?)

I don't remember, it could be several wires but it is wire. Thinking it may be multiple strands because the plug cap screws in.

As long as it is not carbon core you're OK to add extra wire. Packard 440 or Sorenson monometal core can be spliced in and taped or a extention piece with its own cap added to where burned end starts. Lots of patch jobs on dirt bikes- and some choppers- that where put on temporary and are still there 5 years later. RN
