I am working on a 530 Case O Matic, customer says tractor won't pull. Trans fluid foams and is milk shake color. Is there a cooler in the bottom of the radiator? Does't anyone have any ideas?

Drain, flush and replace fluid, and replace filter. If it now works, you're done. If it milks up again, you got a coolant leak (are there lines from the transmission to the bottom of the radiator, like an automotive automatic transmission?). If it doesn't have a coolant leak, and still won't work, then Houston, we gotta problem. And not many guys around who remember enough about that transmission to fix it.

Wonder how good the tech manual is? That might be the next step. . .

The oil through the cooler is at system pressure and we had some failures of the cooler which leaked oil into the coolant while running in years past, If the cooler is blown you won"t have to guess. At that time the lower tank and cooler assembly was available from Case. Drain both the reservoir and the Torque converter unit. The TC drain is accessable through the front drain plug right behind the engine split, just carefully turn the engine over with the fan till the Allen plug comes into view. refil to level with Hytran Ultra, The replacement for the old TCH which was the recommended fluid when new. Fill to level, run, refill to level till the system stabilizes at full immediately after shutdown. Don"t use oils that you are not sure about their ability to get rid of air as some oils will foam easily, mEl
