It appears that former Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark Fidrych was killed on his farm this afternoon.The 54 year old farmer was under his truck that he was working on.It appears to have fallen and crushed him.Fidrych was a rookie in 1976 and had a heckuva year for the Tigers.He then hurt his arm and was soon out of baseball and back to his family farm.Be careful out there everyone.

Mark "The Bird" Fidrych. I remember him. He made quite a stir in the baseball ranks. Didn't he used to talk to the mound?

I wondered what happened to him.

I saw him pitch at the ball park. He always smoothed the mound. Must have been his "farm roots" playing in the dirt. Sorry to hear about his accident.

That's too bad. I saw him pitch several times. He was always an asset to the team, really gave Detroit a boost.

Yeah, I heard that he was found dead on his farm today. Didn't hear how. Just the same, unfortunate. Talked to the ball before he pitched it as I recall. Too bad.

Thats too bad. He was one of my idols when I was in school and was a pitcher on our little league, pony league, and high school teams. We were always trying to imitate him. I think I still have a T shirt with "the bird" on it at my parents house.
