My "52 8N is not getting any spark at the plugs. I was charging the 6 volt battery and attenmpted to turn the ignition on. Could this have damaged anything?

I had the charger + to + and the system is positive ground. Thanks!

You'll get faster/better advice on the Ford N board. Those guys closet themselves over there and don't appear on this forum lest they "soil" themselves.

You had it hooked up right, does the battery turn the engine over? If so start looking for power at the points and coil. You should have power at the coil when the points are open.

So I'm guessing the engine turns over when you try to start it. And no having a charger hooked up will not hurt any thing. I would start by checking the points and make sure they are clean and that you get a spark on them when you open and close them

8N is easy to trouble shoot electrically. You can get online under the FORD topic at this web site for a shcematic or wiring diagram and with a Inexpensive meter(volt/ohm meter-older the better or a 6volt "light bulb" tester and go thru the ignition part by part untill you find what is open circuited or shorted.Check them out.

8n is easy to trouble shoot with an light bulb style tester or better yet an older style volt ohm meter(VOM). A schematic diagram or a wiring diagram is available on this web site under the FORD tractor web topic. If you need to know how to do this drop me a request and I will walk you thru the process. God Bless America.
