OT 6.0 Power Stroke

I have 05 F350 ford with 15000 miles. I really like the truck but i hear horrer stories about this engine what is your opinion or experince of it?

I have a 04, I am running a SCT tuner running about a 100 HP tune and has been for years. It is lifted with 37" tires has 4" exhaust, AFE intake and a few other things >:). Its a great truck and I have had no problems with it except it wears out rear tires....huuummmmmmm, I wonder ?

This is a loaded question. Kind of like the Ford vs Dodge vs Chevy or Repub vs dem etc. I can tell you there are a host of websites out there with tons of info. As a former 6.0 owner I can tell you that the 6.0 cost Ford $1 billion (yes, thats a "B") in warranty costs. People will tell you only the chipped and modified 6.0 failed but thats not true. My 04 had only 12,000 bone stock miles on it when I got rid of it in 06 and got a Cummins Dodge. After numerous problems I hope my ford went to the crusher!

Allan,
That's the same line I got from the Ford dealer. Unfortunately it ain't necessarily so. We ordered an'06 for my service truck at work and, with less than 6000 miles, I can't count the times it's been back to the dealer. Granted, some of it is the lack of good mechanics (OOPS, Service Technicians) but Ford switched engines to the 6.4 for a reason. I won't even get started on our '03's service history. :>( Jf

They switched to 6.4 because of the tighter emissions. As for return trips to visit the Ford "service technicions" I think they all go the same school called "Part Swapper". Unless a computer tells them what is wrong they don't have clue - be it the 6.0 diesel or a 3.0 V6 in Taurus. I had a few items they missed on the assembly line (nothing big but just things that needed fixed) and it 14 trips for my wife's 2006 Freestyle. 5 trips alone for a rear seat that was supposed to fold but was locked in place for some reason. I was so tired of their crap I asked them to give me the parts so I could fix it at home instead but they wouldn't do it.

I think Hyundai is going to get my business next time.

I have a 05 Freestyle in shop now ,,,AWD malfunction . Pressure pump coupling motor bad, updated pressure sensor so far.. close to $700 Drivetrain parts mostly come from Volvo .

paul harvey storey "haha"
1) the 6.0s all have head stud bolt problems. if you pull a lot with the truck the studs will stretch. gaurantee.you will get a antifreeze smell in a long pull.
2) ford will try to blame you for it all.
3)there is a guru on 6.0s on you tube telling about all the fixes to make a wounderfull truck. i had a 03 6.0 and 2 05 6.0s the 2nd 05 had to have the head gaskets and bolts replaced and the limited slip rear center chunk. (no factory slip fluid in it). i like the comfort and look of the cabs so i bought a 07 f-650 cat powered to get away from the motor problems.the best truck i had was a 02 v-10 4dr ford. 1 mile per gallion less than my deisel.

I have an 06 350 which spends its time pulling a goose neck trailer for a living. It has 125,000 miles with very little problem. It has been to the shop twice, and Ford picked up the bill both times. The truck is maintained regularly, and it has been a good one.

I can only tell you my experience. I have a 05 F350 with the 6.0. Truck has 78,000 on it now and has been to the shop one time. Ford picked up the tab.

I had an 03 6.0 F-350, First year for that engine, It suddenly started running oil through the antifreeze, ruined I dont know how many parts and components, luckily it was under warranty but it spent 3 weeks in the shop THAT time, Next time around 4 injectors went out at once, Replaced the Alternator Twice, Replaced Fuel Lines, Computer reprogrammed a couple times, I got so mad at it I went and bought an 07 Chevy Duramax, and then realized what crap really was, I had it for just over a month and bought a new 08 6.4 Ford F-350, Best truck ive owned. 36,000 on it in less than a year with no issues.

Ford is divorceing from international. Just wait till you have to get warrantee!!! HAHAHAHAH Its getting ugly and Intrnational dont want to give any thing to ford. I still like the power stroke 7.3 but thats my choice.

The first couple of years they had problems with head bolts and a few other areas. After a few years, most of problems were sorted out just in time to do away the 6.0 and start with the 6.4 because of increased emissions.
If you ever replace the 6.0 head bolts, replace them with studs.

A tech at a dealership really doesn't learn how to fix a car. He is (more or less) a parts replacer. And here is why:
When you talk to the shop foreman, (if he's a good one), there is probably about a 75 percent chance that he knows what is wrong before it hits the tech. The reason is because they only work on one make of car and he has seen your problem a bunch of times. If the foreman does NOT know what is wrong, the tech is advised to call an 800 number to talk directly to the factory service reps.
And the reason is simple. They want to get your car in and out as fast as possible to make the maximum amount of money.
As a tech at a dealership, we had to do this "Safety check" on every car that came in. It didn't matter if it was 1 month old or 40 years old. The only reason we did it was to sell parts, translation: Make money.
If you want a tech who knows a lot and thinks for himself, he is probably an independent and he works on all brands.
I'm off my soapbox now.
