OT - AVG 8.5 does not seem to have a free license anymore

Anybody else updated to the latest version of AVG anti-virus stuff? Loaded it on one of our computers last week and it appears to be a typical 30 day trial license instead of the "free" license they used to have. Did I miss something along the way?

Thanks,

Kirk

That is what I have on the other machines yet. Just keep getting big banners to upgrade and wondering if it is still free. Guess I will have to wait for a free upgrade.

Thanks,

Kirk

I installed the new 8.5 free version on my home computer last week. It took a while to weed through all the gimmicks for paid version, but it can be done.

Is it readily apparent and I just missed it or is there a complicated procedure required?

Wondering what will happen after 30 days on the machine I installed it on. Will it revert to the free license or just stop working?

Thanks,

Kirk

It's sorta hid in all the fine print. I went through the ordeal 3 times before I found the correct way. You gotta "un-install" the old system first, then it'll take you through the steps to install th upgrade.

In my case, dumb luck helped a great deal.

After having a problem with a paid version of AVG I attempted to get tech support from the company for 6 weeks. I even used their different addresses to no avail. During that time my computer vulnerable to attack as the program was not working at all due to a glitch in an update.

I finally just uninstalled it and went with a free version of Avast. I don't feel it is quite as good as AVG but then again anything that works is better than absolutely nothing.

Only after uninstalling AVG did AVG contact me other than with an automated response----they wanted to know why I had uninstalled their product. Duh, it isn't working and tech support will not respond at all. For a free version I can understand, but I was a paying customer with 2 years left on 3 year agreement of use.

Anyone that wants AVG can have it but I am certainly soured on the company and product.

The update link takes you to an ad for the pay version, there way of showing it you you and all its great features over the free version. Way down at the bottom in small fine print was the link that took you from there to the free one, and then installed it. I"ve done it with 4 computers, all have upgraded to 8.5 with a free license. also didn"t have to un-install anything to do it.

AVG has been kind of sneaky about getting to there free version for a while now. They make it difficult to find. Guess they really want you to buy the full one, as anyone out there in business to make money would.

As the others say, they want you to buy a version, of course, so they hide the actual free one in the fine print. It's there, but you have to look for it, & not just click on the big banners or you end up with the trial/cost you one.

I just now dumped AVG also. Downloaded and installed Avast. So far so good, but the jury is still out. I do know that Avast found a large malware file that AVG wasn't aware of.

I used the link and did the upgrade from AVG 8.0. Thanks, glad someone knows/understands this stuff and helps the less literate.
