Recently I did the plate fuel plate mod on my 98 Ram 250. The performance increase was astounding! So much so that I was a little worried about egt. SO I just finished installing pyro gauge.
I'm seeing 750 degrees, running level, unloaded at 70 mph (1900rpm, 3.55 gears on manual)
I know that's safe, but when I start towing 12k uphill where is the danger zone? What temps do I NOT want to be for over a minute or so?

Can safely run up to 1250 for long periods of time. Thats assuming you put the pyro on [b:0b18f0a936][u:0b18f0a936]PRE TURBO[/u:0b18f0a936][/b:0b18f0a936]. You can hit 1350 for real short bursts (5-10 sec) with out causing problems. If you notice that your EGT's are too high you can safely run 35 LBS of boost with th HX-35 turbo that is on your pickup. On my dads 97 we just unhooke the wastegate accuator hose @the AFC housing and plugged the port. If you dont feel comfotable doing that there are companies that sell "boost elbows" or adjustable wasegate accuators so that you can set the max boost to 35LBS. That will make a substantial difference in EGT's and possibly WOT power if you have any smoke under load.

If running probe post turbo you lose about 300 degrees so max there would be about 1000 degrees. I prefer to stay at 900 or less when probing post turbo.

I installed the probe in front of the Turbo as recommended.
How much would the $275 K&N air filter kit help cool it down. And is removing the cat going to cool it down?
I'm only driving this truck less than 10k miles a year so mileage isn't a concern . But power is. I couldn't maintain 40mph in moderate grades in the Black Hills, before I wicked this thing up.

Not sure how much the K&N filter will help. On mine and JMJ"s we took a 2 in hole saw and put 4 more holes in the original air box under the filter in the sides so we could get more air. I lost my catalitic converter accidently on purpose. and gained 2 MPG If the exhaust can get out faster they will run cooler. I lost the converter before I moved the fuel plate both increased power.

Mine is a 24 valve but with the holes in my air box ( I actually added 7) on the dirty side, straight piped exhaust, up to 30 LBS of boost 65 HP chip and 80 HP injectors, I can gross 15K and never hit 1200 with mine. Before i put the injectors in and before i caged my wastgate and could only build 20 LBS of boost, all other things the same ive hauled as high as 21K and would just 1300 in a tough pull. I have a factory replacement K&N filter and i dont think i would buy another one, for what little it helped its not worth the oil that gets pulled into the turbo blades.
