scrap -vs- new

My brother-in-law in a steel building salesman and the price has dropped to some degree. I purchased a building from him last November and he had me wait until he saw it come down. At least SOMEONE was looking out for me.

Here the local steel guys still have all expensive steel in stock and want their money back out of it. Funny they raised the price instantly when it was going up.

I've been holding off on any purchases except those which I simply cannot avoid. Some buildings I want to put up or add to will just have to wait. No sense buying a bunch of steel, etc and then seeing the prices nosedive over the next year.

Buying steel or anything else right now, is best done by calling for pricing from several different suppliers. Some suppliers have moved volume from last year's peak prices and now have in stock lower cost materials. Other suppliers are still trying to move the high price stuff without taking too big of a hit. Recently I've priced the same stainless tubing from the same manufacturer (American) from 2 different regional suppliers and sometimes have seen as much as $4.00 to $12.00 per foot price difference.
