voltige cut down

The correct answer based on the info you provided is MAYBE......Beware of advice here that does not take into account the current rating of the switch you bought and the voltage and resistance of your coil... BE SURE THE SWITCH IS FOR WHATEVER POLARITY YOUR TRACTOR IS

YOU NEED TO ASK THE ELEC SWITCH AND COIL VENDOR WHO CAN ANSWER YOUR SPECIFIC QUESTION BASED ON,,,,,The current rating of the elec switch you have,,,,,,The current draw (i.e. the resistance) of the coil...

If the coil you have is a full true 12 volt coil (what some refer to as internaly ballasted) and if its resistance is such that the current it draws is within the limits of the elec switch YOU PROBABLY DONT NEED ANY SERIES EXTERNAL VOLTAGE DROPPING (12 to 6) CURRENT LIMITING BALLAST RESISTOR

HOWEVER if the coils current draw exceeds what current the switch is rated to handle YOU MAY WELL NEED AN EXTERNAL CURRENT LIMITING BALLAST RESISTOR

THATS WHY YOU HAVE TO ASK THE VENDOR WHO SOLD YOU THE COIL AND ELEC SWITCH because they can correctly match a coil to suit your switch or tell you to add a ballast if its needed (which they will know)

Many garden variety off the shelf elec switches can safely handle a standard stock full true 12 volt coil IN WHICH CASE NO BALLAST IS REQUIRED

HOWEVER if you tossed your old stock coil and bought one of the high energy high voltage coils YOU BETTER FOR SURE CONSULT WITH THE VENDOR CUZ SOME COILS DRAW HIGHER CURRENT AND A BALLAST MAY BE NEEDED.

NOTE: If you intend to use a standard stock 6 volt coil and now youre converted to 12 volts IN THAT CASE YOU MOST SURELY WILL NEED AN EXTERNAL SERIES VOLTAGE DROPPING (12 to 6) BALLAST RESISTOR SO THE SWITCH ISNT EXPOSED TO EXCESS CURRENT PLUSSSSSSSS SO THE COIL WONT OVERHEAT

ASK THE VENDOR AND KNOW THE MAKE N MODEL OF YOUR SWITCH AND WHAT VOLTAGE (maybe even resistance) and what coil youre using and they can answer your question or else just take a chance I guess, but given the cost of the switch Id want a good accurate answer based on the switches rating and the coils resistance !!!

Best wishes n good luck
