OT: Went to a gun show yesterday

My boss and I went to a gun show yesterday.

There was a lot of stuff, one vendor had over 30 tables set up. He had over 50 AR style rifles available for sale, almost all were the .223 caliber, 1 Bushmaster in .450 cal and a Sigsauer in .223 for $2900--Ouch!. I didnt see any US made AR's for less then $1000. Most were $1050-$1,500 range. All brands too, BM, Panther, S & W. I saw some of the AK knock offs, for under $500, I wouldnt buy one of these. Some of the Ruger ranch rifles too.

Lots of knives, a few swords. Shotguns and regular rifles were somewhat plentiful. I didnt buy anything. The boss wants an AR-10---7.62 caliber. (there werent any for sale)

The boss bought an airsoft gun for his son, looks like an H-K MP5 machine gun, shoots rubber pellets in full auto mode, very fun. This "toy" was $75 with pellets. It will be a few years before I get one of these for my son. I can see my windows busted the cat dead and welts in my drywall with this thing.

Only thing I bought was a rifle case for my Armalite. My wish list is long but....I will wait until sales pick up at work.

How were the prices on the usual stuff? My son was at a show and said everything was way overpriced & he didn't buy anything.

Shotguns, pump actions were $250-$300. I saw a couple of lever actions for $300, 2 or 3 different models. I saw some of the Cheesy eastern European and Russian rifles but I wasnt looking at prices on much other then the AR's.

I did see an Uzi 9MM for $1500, that is semi-auto I presume. I saw hand guns too that were $500 and up. Yes it is all expensive, but not too overpriced. This is in SE Michigan.

AR magazines were $20 and up, this one guy had over 100 magazines that had all different brands/calibers/prices. The standard 30 round banana clip for the AR's were selling for $25 and up. (used)

I loaded up the safe with AR lowers. Bought 20 of them over the last 6 months. I fear anouther ban is in the works. If so, the rest of the parts, the uppers, trigger sets and stocks will come down a lot in price in the future.

Good idea, What did 20 lower receivers cost you?

Also Where is SF....That isnt the Homo capital of California is it?

I was just wondering in your guys opinion i was lookin for a good rifle to shoot coyotes i live in central Illinois so i dont really get long distance shots what gun do you guys think would be best.
Thanks
Ben

You still can't beat the ole .270 for over all flat shooting, can be used on deer, availability of ammo, reloading componants, etc.

The .270 is a necked down .30-.06. Lots of new wonder guns, .223's, etc.

If I had to have one gun for groundhogs to elk, it would be a .270 bolt action.

I have a Remington 700 in .270 and it's awesome against whitetails.

I went to a gun show this morning. It was a small one, even by rural Nebraska standards. I did buy a NIB Hi-Point .45 auto. Haven't fired it yet. Didn't want to disturb the Alpha Female. She doesn't know I have a firearms fund ratholed.

And, I know. Hi-Points are cheap. But, dang it, I have one in 9mm and outside of one quirk it's really not all that bad. (Besides the inherent ineffectiveness of a 9mm). The one quirk is, if you shoot Winchester ammo, it will jam on the last round, every time. If you shoot Remington ammo, it's flawless and at least as accurate as I am, and I routinely qualified high Sharpshooter with the .45 pistol in the Marine Corps.

And there were bargains to be had, although not among Colts, Rugers, et al. Mostly in the lesser known makes. There was a Wards (made by Mossberg) 20 guage, vent rib, pump shotgun in pristine condition for $200 that caught my eye. I might have bought it if I hadn't run into the .45. On the other hand, good old M-1 rifles were still going for $1200 minimum.

Life is good.

Most of those have found the place to expensive and moved off to college towns in Texas, Iowa Wisconsin and Indiana. If you are as interested in a relationship as you seem, a few are left and I would be happy to track one down and introduce you. I paid form $135 in Dickinson ND to $250 in San Rafael and Vallego CA.

I had a Hi-Point carbine that I picked up for $99 about 10 years ago. Like a fool I sold it to a buddy for $120 thinking I made out pretty good. Now I wish I still had it. They are ugly clunky things, but I haven't heard of anyone that actually owned one bad mouth their products.

Hey Ben, Down is southern Ill were over run with deer and wild turkey. I'd like to shoot ever deer I see but I wouldn't touch a coyote. Tom
