I'm kind of wondering what this setup is for? Local Amish farmers maybe? Going up at auction on Saturday.

Around here Mennonite farmers use some modern-day tractors with steel wheels. Last fall I visited the farm of one, who had a fairly decent size case 2wd with wheels made out of a strip of expanded metal. Mud flowed right through - you should have seen the buildup on the wheel disks!

Ivan didn't quite bring out all their self loathing, so they put him on steel....
Least it'll save the scrap man from having the break rubber off the wheels before they melt the darn thing.

That is the Komrade Stalin modelski. Made for man of steel! No pusskis need apply! These models appeared after Inner Tube and Tire Factory 26 burned down in 1967. Later, they were shipped to Czechoslovakia to punish the farmers who revolted in 1968. They were forced to drive these tractors on paved roads for 18 hours a day until their spines collapsed or spleens ruptured..whichever occurred first.

Exported to the West in the 1990"s as part of perestroika.

You can bet if an Amish owned and ran it for long , he is selling it because it is plenty wore out and old "Olga" there looks very tired.

i expect its a mennonite tractor. i didn't think that the amish (most anyways) could use self-powered equipment.
one thing that always amused me was putting a skid steer on steel. it must have been totally helpless on concrete.
have fun at jim's auction.

The Amish here in Southern Illinois use rubber tired tractors, mostly for transportation, every day except Sunday. On Sunday they use the one horse enclosed buggys.

I think every time they re-colonize in a new area they get a little more modern.

J, that looks like MacFadden's. I was tempted to go just for entertainment, but I have too much to do here to take the day. Hope you can fall into a bargain.

Theres alot of those kind of units around here. In fact, theres an auction this weekend with an entire line of farm equip on steel, from tractors to disks (hyd lift w/ steel wheels) I've even seen a skid loader on steel before.

Yes. I just went for the preview, I can't stand the crowds and confusion at the actual auction. Besides,

No doubt its from an Amishman. Around here they have some pretty neat stuff on steel. Nearby machinery dealer will buy a piece of machinery on steel then he puts it on rubber so he can sell them the steel. He says a big dealer out east does it so why cant I. Newer group here around Kalona,Ia is now having machinery on rubber because of their Bishops ruling. Too many oiled roads for them to get to their farms ect. Surprising how many cell phones they now have Storm blew down huge machine shed and in the back was the big rotary combine on rubber changed some ideas when that happened. Its been interesting the last 50yrs to see the changes.
