OT Oil Stop Leak

Does this stuff work? If so what brand do you recommend? My 1999 F150 just started dripping (just a few drop every night on the driveway)from what I think if the rear main. Before I pay someone big bucks to tear it down and replace it I thought I would try stop leak if it works.

nothing replaces worn parts except new parts, however, i have used the lucus brand products with good results.

It don't work,,,, when something needs replacing cause it's wore to the point that it drips oil, then fix it,,, you can always try it out using stop leak, but your just spending money for nothing

all they can do is to soften the seal material.you can do just as well with a pint of rubbing alcohol.once had a truck that would leak when using pennzoil, switched to mystic and it quit leaking

Pick your favorite brand of "high mileage oil" at the next change. They have an additive package that softens and swells seals / gaskets. I have cut leaks and consumption on engines with a lot of miles, works good.

Don't even think about dropping rubbing alcohol in the crankcase or fuel tank. look at the lable, rubbing alcohol is 70 % isopropyl alcohol, 30% water.

I tried some back in the mid 70s on a car I had. That $3 oil stop leak cost me around $400 in repairs because it stopped the relief valve in the oil pump form opening up and it blew out the oil filter gasket and a few other things

I have had some success with it on a 1985 Ranger. I have a 1998 GMC that started leaking at the rear main a couple years ago intermittantly. I tried stop leak and it helped for a little while. Had my mechanic check it out last summer and he recommended replacing rear seal and pan gasket. Looks like I will get that done this summer.

if that rear main is like the chevy, it ain't that hard to fix. If it is a one piece seal, I would try the stop leak first. I have a 94 cummins a I am about to pull the tranny on for the same thing...sux.

The rear main goes because the main bearings are shot and the crank has to much end play. If you change the seal it will happen again unless you replace the mains especially the thrust bearing. Check the crank for excessive end play by grabing the front crank pulley and moving it forward and backward.

I forget the brand, but just used some in my kia that was leaking pretty bad out of a frt seal. Took about a week but the leak stopped. Coincidence?? Remember putting a half qt or so of ATF in the highschool hotrods to stop the mains and help leaking valve seals.

Lucas products have a good reputation for stopping leaks in Engines etc. I changed my power steering pump oil and put in Lucas product and leak stopped.
