1999 chevy 1500

I have a 1999 chevy silverado 1500 and the check 4-wheel drive display lights up along with the low windshield wiper fluid and the battery light flashes at you even though the gauge reads 14.0 volts all the time. I am just wondering if any body else has this problem and how to cure it without taking it to the dealer?

repairman told me to unhook the battery AT THE NEGATIVE POST for at least 5 minutes, then reconnect, which would reset the computer.

I had the same problem with the 4 wd indicator. It turned out to be lack of use. Xmission shop told me to shift it in and out of 4wd every once in a while. I did and that solved the problem.

Yeah, i wish i could find a nice 78 GMC Step-side pickup. I'd trade my computer controlled 97 Ranger for it! I had a six cylinder that would really run great and wasn't hard on gas, and was dependable.
The Ranger cost me $100 just for a sensor that made a flashing light go out on the test computer for state inspection!! And now, the check engine light has just come on. Everything looks ok, so a piece of black tape will cover the light, if the battery trick doesn't work!
