front tractor fenders from the 70's-80's

Here"s a question, back in the 70"s wasn"t there a manufacture of add-on front tractor fenders for row crop tractors? I remember seeing these, they were flat on top, and made of heavy steel, unlike the rounded ones of plastic on more modern tractors? I remember seeing them on a few John Deere 30 series tractors, but maybe some 66 IH"s too. Who manufactured these, was it Hiniker?
I"d like to find a straight pair for my JD 4030, know of a place to find them?
Thanks

something like these? I haven't noticed any with flat tops, but these are pretty tough. Fenders are mandatory (in a lot of cases) here so available most of the time. I got a new set for my IHC for about 100 bucks. I've seen some homemade ones also that were pretty creative. If these are the direction you want to go, I can see if I find something. Sending them isn't a big deal and postage is figured from NY.

If you want to make your own, maybe I can get some pics and measurements (anything for an excuse to go to the local tractor yard).

I remember those also. Might have been Hiniker that built them, might have been Year-A-Round. I haven't seen any of them for quite some time now.

I remember some that were heavy-guage and flat on top, I think they called them gas-step fenders, because you could stand on them to refuel a 20 or 30 series John Deere. I think either Herschel or Hiniker made them.

They are Hinicker. My dad bought a 4430 that had them. He said they were great for fueling and keeping dust down but any time he went through mud it would wedge full. I saw your post and dug in the barn and found them. They have a big sticker on them saying Hinicker. I would post a picture but haven't a clue how to. He sold them once but the guy never picked them up. I thought about putting them back on just for fueling but never have. A couple years ago I made the stretch from the step to the tire. The tire was a little slick and I landed on the front axle on my ribs rolled off and landed in a mud puddle. Nothing broke but worse than that was the people standing there watching me do it. In the spring JD parts catalog they list fueling steps for 30-60 series tractors. It is RE186238 for $122.

I had a set on my Oliver 1750 back in 1970 they were made by Hiniker. In fact I still have them they are flat top with a step on lower back side Tom

Both Hiniker and Year-A-Round made them at one time. Both of these companies were located in Mankato, MN and it seems like if one company had something different to sell, the other was soon to follow.

I had a pair of Hiniker"s on my 4020. Biggest headache was keeping them tight, since they mounted using the bolt that holds the steering arm on the spindle. Worked great to keep mud off the tractor during a rain. Another step option is buy/build a sturdy toolbox, bolt it on the left side of the tractor. I haven"t used the saddle tanks on my 4240 for years, but the support is still there and makes a good step.

There is an IH for sale with the same windscreen on it as that JD, I
assumed it was a homebuilt job, are they common in the UK?

Of one type or another they are common (I'm in Germany). I've got about the same thing on my little tractor with a rag top and sides with wings that close up the lower leg/foot area.

DJL, I have a nice set of the fenders you are referring to. I think they were on a 4320 last. Will fit others also. Post your e-mail and I will try to send photos Wed PM. Where are you located ?
