Weather and calving

It was 73 degrees here yesterday and we had 2 calves, today it is foggy and misting rain and windy with a blizzard on the way and we have already had 5 calves this morning. We are right in the middle of calving. Hope the forecasters are wrong about this blizzard! Probably won't be though

Don't feel to bad, here in IL we've been calvin in the mud for weeks now. Supposted to get more rain today.

Last week calving was great. This week it's gonna be rough. Heavy rain Monday and Tuesday, and calling for heavy snow on Wednesday. I've got calf shelters for all to comfortably go into if they want, just hope they will.

People have always said, "Watch out for the change in the weather, particularly a low pressure coming in. They say it makes the cows calf. Any of you other cowmen agree?

Up here in ND we have had everything. Started calving early march when it was -25, than we had warm weather for a week or 2 which brought lots of mud, and now we are having 40 mph winds with 12 to 18 inches of snow forcasted.......

Well, we had a week of sun and warm, yesterday as the wind was blowing like crazy when the low pressure system was moving in, I had three cows calfing at the same time. Seems to me that it sure could have been the change in pressure.

I calved in crap like that last year. Didn't turn the bulls out until July 3rd so we're a few weeks off this year. Live and learn. Or better said, learn and calves live.

We have had some people around here change their calving date because of a storm that hit the year before at a certain time and they seem to get hit anyway! We have calved this time of year for 30 years, just have to take the good with the bad. Last year was perfect weather. Some of our worst storms have been in the middle to late April. Had some friends that lost over 100 calves in a April 24-26th storm. The next year April 11-12 got 'em for 50 By then, ours are big enough to know what the calf shelters are for.
