CASE 310B CLUTCH

I am trying to restor a 310B case. Ican not get the clutch to work. I have had it apart a dozen times and find nothing wrong. New pressure plate and 2 new clutch disc, new throw out bearing. I can push the clutch in but it does not release. Any one have any suggestions on what is wrong with it?

Does the clutch pedal have normal "feel" to it... in other words, is there some free travel followed by resistance as the throwout bearing contacts the clutch release fingers and begins to release the clutch?

I am not familiar with that specific tractor, HOWEVER, most lined clutch discs have to be installed a certain way, USUALLY with the offset of the springs and hub back towards the pressure plate.

Otherwise, if the offset faces forward the offset hub and springs will catch the flywheel-crankshaft bolts and the clutch won't release.

Check the manual to be SURE which way your's is supposed to go, and look for markings such as "flywheel side" on the lined disc.

Assume you are replacing a double plate clutch with the same not a single plate with a double plate setup.

This problem comes up fairly often on the 300's. Go to the link below and see if it applies. Also note that the throwout bearing on the double plate clutch has a roll pin catch as opposed to formed notch on the rim of the single plate bearing.

Ks,

The first question is , did you draw the
tractor back together the last 1/2 or 3/4
inch with bolts ? Do you have the release
bearing on backwards (you do not have a throw
out bearing as thery are used on hand clutches),
release bearing looks like it is backwards
when it is proper. Do you have the disc hubs
turned the right way?

My guess is that you crushed the cover
assembly when you drew the halves of the
tractor together with bolts, you did not have
the hydraulic pump drive splines lined up
and it would not slide together freely.
You can press the cover assembly back out
to where it should be in a press.
