I hear some people who receive a pay check from a employer have a little more money like 13.00 more a week. If I am self employed how do I get mine? Stan

My buddy up the road was laid off for a week a while back. He got a $25.00 check a week after the unemployment check arrived. Lay yourself off and get almost twice the $13.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David..............

At the risk of giving a serious answer when you might just be joking - here goes.

There isn't any tax refund to this. There isn't any reduction in taxes at all. What the IRS did was to reduce the amount of withholding that it requires employers to take away from employees for their regular Federal Income Tax withholding. Come April 15, 2010, employees have to pay their income tax for 2009 at the same rate as they would have if the withholding hadn't been reduced. This means that people will be receiving less of a refund of the amount that they overpaid on their taxes, or they could have to pay more taxes where they would normally get a little bit back.

It's another snow job that the government is pulling to try to make people they are doing something right for a change.

What people forget is that the government has no money. It they give a "refund", it has been taken from someone else. They have NO money. It is all ours. Well, it used to be.

If I've read correctly, our $13 per week is only going to cost each of us around $6500 and the government is worried about Maddoff's ponzi scheme. They must not like the competition......

Some sources say that the extra is only a reduction in the withholding amount. The ultimate tax owed has not changed. More trickery from Washington.

if ya think ya got no money now, wait until the government decides to devalue the currency like was done in Argentina a few years ago. just take a 0 off the end and $100 becomes $10. how do ya like that? all of a sudden we are all poor. don't worry, it will happen soon. the government has to do something to 'stimulate' the economy. we have nothing backing our money as we are off the gold standard. prepare y'self.

And for the ultimate irony, if you were prudent and had adjusted your withholding so you got only a tiny refund, now you will have UNDER withheld when tax time comes around, will owe more tax, and WILL OWE A PENALTY!

I tell ya, those pitchforks and torches are lookin' better all the time.

The Feds started to print one Trillion more dollars rather than borrow it from China. I understand that China has cut us off.

I don't see why we make all these teleprompter jokes NOW, but didn't for the last 8 years. Are you telling me Bush did it all off-the-cuff?

By the way, this economic crisis did not develop in the first two months of the external_link administration. Nor did it only occur under G.W. Bush. We've been digging this hole for years, but now it's come to crisis proportions.

And also by the way, I don't believe spending our way out of this is going to work. It looks like we just have to take our medicine. It will be a hard lesson.

With the exception of major speeches like the state of the union, yes, Bush did it without teleprompting. Notes, perhpas, but not a word for word teleprompter.

It isn't really funny when the pres of the US is too stupid to give a speech using only notes or, God forbid, actually just talking about what he thinks. The point was made the other day when someone fouled up the teleprompter text and he actually read "I want to thank President external_link..." - he called himself by name! People thought Bush was dumb but he was a whole lot smarter than the current dufus.

You won't get the $13.00 per week from June until the end of the year, and you won't get the $8.00 per week all of next year, but you WILL get to make payments on it until your dead and gone. Me too. Makes us both kind of special, don't it?
