yanmar 1500

neighbor offered me a Yanmar 1500 tractor this evening, wants to get it off his property, he had a buddy that left it last year with intentions of putting it back together. Tractor is split in half and crank has been reworked, said it needs new rings and should be ready to put back together. All parts that were taken loose are in barn. Is this little tractor worth fooling with? Is there anyone in south Alabama that will work on a Yanmar? Has 4 new tires and sheet metal is in real good shape, does not look very old.

I believe the hundred series tractors are from the 70's. Yanmar is an excellent tractor, if in fact all it needs is rings, gaskets, etc. and he's giving you the tractor to get rid of it, by all means fix it.

The tractors are not worth much when running and working. But for the most part they are worth repairing. 2 cylinder diesel, thermo-siphon cooling system.

Yanmar is a popular grey market tractor it shouldn't be hard to find someone to work on it. There is a couple grey dealers I know of in mid and northern 'Bama that probably knows someone that could fix it in your area. Barnett Tractor, and Fredricks Equip. both have (or had) websites.

there is a guy here in my town that may have some parts or info if you want his # and if you can can get a bill of sale for $1 you should be legal

I have owned a Yanmar 1500 for about 9 years. Its a well built tractor of about 18 HP. Any diesel mechanic should be able to put the engine back together. Parts are available. Open your email or contact me via email on this forum and I"ll send you some info and links on that Yanmar 1500.
