pulling a disk with a JD model 40

I need some advice. I have an old JD Model 40 that is in good shape and runs pretty well. I'd like to find an old disk to pull behind it for doing some minor landscaping work on my acreage (smooth out the ruts, etc.). What kind of a disk would work well with this tractor for the type of use it's going to see? I know the 40 is rated at about 22 HP at the drawbar, but how does that relate to the type/size of disk it could handle?

I have an 8ft tandem drag type ( no hydraulic lift) and I have pulled that with a B Allis for smoothing out ruts etc. For that type of work it did fine. It wouldn't have pulled it disking in a plowed field though. I'd say 6-8ft, depending on how deep you want the disk to cut in.

Ihave pulled my Massey Harris 7 foot drag disc with my J.D. 420 which is basically the same as the 40 and it pulled it good in 2nd ,even with the blades on a good angle and a few hundred pounds of weight on it.

You will find that if the soil has really thick grass and has not been plowed in ages, the disk will do next to nothing but uproot grass. At least 5 swipes would be needed to disk this kind of hardpack. Plow first, then disk.
