What happened to Slope Tractor Co.?

My grandmother worked for Slope Tractor Co. in Kansas in the late 60's. She remembers having either stock options or some other company sponsored savings account and I am trying to track down the company history for her. Does anyone know if they were bought or if they just folded? The SEC filings don't go that far back and I have run into other dead ends as well. A shove in the right direction would be most appreciated. Thanks! ([email protected])

The Corporation commission (or it's equivalent in Kansas) will have the records of incorporation of the company and when closed, and the reason. There's usually a fee if info not online (Oregon has 5 yrs online; $50--yes, $50--for info on earlier). (Ripoff). (Altho often named Corporation Comm, will also have records for partnerships, assumed business names, etc.)
If you're close to a decent pub lib they might have a collection of City/County Directories, in which you can tell when company listed, and when it disappears from listings.
Stock option/savings program I can't comment on.
You could post inquiries for other old employees in local paper, local Craigslist, etc. Local paper might have morgue articles about company, especially shutdown/failure/merger. Local Historical Society might have file on company.
There're probably simpler routes I haven't thouight of. Good luck.
Have you tried Googling the company and any known executives??

Since its a tractor company, you might try to find some old-time farmers in the area who could fill in the blanks. I know if someone asked me about any tractor company in my area from the '60's forward, I could probably give them the info they need.

Slope tractors were actually a mower used for roadside mowing. The "tractor" part of the mower stayed vertical, even on the sidehills of grader ditches while mowing. Don't know where they were made but believe it was Kansas.

Here's a little more.

Slope Tractor inc went out of business late 70's/early 80's. Harper industries in Kansas is now selling a very similar mower.

Slope obtained patents for their mower starting in the late 50's. Three people who called their group DewEze filed a patent appl for a slightly modified mower design that Harper is now selling.

That's all I know - Maybe Harper bought out slope, or part of slope.

In kansas coprporations are governed by the Secretary of State.

Googled Kansas secretray of state corporations and found some info - you can do the same to get more. In Kansas every corp. has a resident agent - usually a lawyer - who handles business affairs. The resident agent of record at the time the corporation name was abandoned in kansas was Clinton Engstrand, 816 Union Center, Wichita, KS 67202.

and good luck to you.

I know where there is one of these beasts! what a pile of iron, ford 172 gas motor, and a lot of hydraulic cyls. There is a pretty good description in the encyclopedia of american farm tractors, I believe, if that's not the right title, I have it in paperback, its the set of 3 books that goes from about 1890 to 1980.

There was a picture of one on here about a year ago. Could check the archives. My dad sold commercial turf equipment for many years. He sold slope tractors and thought they were a very good design but never really caught on. Probably just another example of something that was ahead of its time. Dave
