Hitch types

I know there are different classes of hitches. I have a Fordson super major. I came across an old FORD SINGLE PLOW AND BOUGHT IT. NOW, THE PROBLEM IS THE BARS-PINS ON THE PLOW ARE WAY TOO NARROW AND DON'T PROTRUDE FAR ENOUGH TO GET FAR ENOUGH THROUGH THE BALLS ON THE 3 POINT ON THE FSM. (SORRY ABOUT SHOUTING, JUST SAW CAPS WERE LOCKED. I think I can get smaller balls at tractor supply that will fit the older pins. These are not actually pins, rather where they ground down the end of the rods. Can someone please tell me about catagory sizes? Is cat1 the smallest
and the cat 3 the largest? Does anyone have lenghts and diamiter of such? Are the littli tin straps what bhold the pin into the arm> If I break off one of those tins am I in DEEP bovine excrement?

Go to the headings on the left side of these web pages, scroll down to 'Research & Info' and click on the '3-point Specs' to find out about the diff cat 3pt hitches.

Newer equipment has bolt on pins on the implement, break one or need a different size & you can just bolt on a new one, get something that fits.

Real old stuff, sounds like yours, has a big rod or shaft across & might be special bent for a plow or the like. Perhaps you can drill holes or what you need to do to get the bolt-on ones to work for you on the implement.

They make little sleeves so the cat 1 pins will fill out a cat 2 ball; but it sounds like your problem is more about the pins being too short.

An option would be to put on a quick hitch sleeve - these pin onto the cat 1 hitch and add an outer collar, making the pin area a little longer. However, you'd need to get a quick hitch for your tractor, & I'm spending a few 100 bucks of your money now.... ;)
