IH 300 vs H

I bought a Farmall H with a crumbling manifold, is there any reason it couldnt be replaced with a complete manifold off a IH 300U, the farmall H is going to be my fixer upper this spring.ive got brand new gasket kit for the H. Carb on 300 looks larger. Thanks for ideas guys.

Will it fit? Is the stud spacing the same?
Looking in a NAPA engine parts book--H is 3-3/8
bore, Super H is 3-1/2 bore, 300 is 3-9/16 bore.
None of the parts have the same part numbers--
valves-gaskets sets. Bearings are the same so
they may share a crankshaft.(perhaps a block)

Fits right on. Carb will work. Be careful at the governor link to get the tab into the slot on assembly. Be sure the gasket surface on the casting is flat, and run a die over the studs. Replace any questionable nuts, and use silver anti-seize on them. JimN

Unless you have a relatively rare 300U manifold, the exhaust exits downward, so you'd have an unused hole in the hood of your H, and have to account for the downward exhaust somehow on your H.

Are you sure? I've seen a lot of utilities that come out the bottom, but never a 300 that did.

Bolt pattern for carburetor mounting is smaller on the H. Most aftermarket manifolds have sloted holes to fit both size carburetors. Lots of utility manifolds exit at front and have a elbow that turns exhaust down. Farmall manifolds exit out the top center and this was also on some utilitys. Lots of utility manifolds were replaced with farmall type also. If you use a 300 carburetor on the H, the throttle shaft to governor is a different length between the two. Although you can probably get the throttle shaft to work, its not ideal.

That's what the original poster said, a 300U. A Farmall 300 should have a manifold similar to the H, but the 300U will most likely have a downward exhaust, though there was an option to have the exhaust upward thru the hood.

Don't know. Dad had a 300U,a neighbor had one, another one had a 350U,all had the exhaust out the top of the hood like the row crops did.

SORRY guys i think i made a mistake on tractor im getting the manifold off a 350U IH tractor and the exhaust does come out the top, dam should have known better than to say 300, i still like to know if its gonna work for me, i will wait for more info from you guys SORRY

It will work. The carb should be used as well as the tube from the Governor. Make sure it is flat and clean up the bolts. Checking it with water by plugging the carb mount hole, and filling to the ports will assess the cracks or holes. JimN
