to simplify things and clear up my bed floor im thinking of buying one of those conversion parts that will allow me to pull my rv with my normal stock trailer ball in the bed, instead of the cumbersome fith wheel hitch, for those who have done this do you notice any difference over the fith wheel hitch? it would seem to me that the trailer would ride easier on the gooseneck ball but i dont know,

Pulled mine 1000's miles all over US with a gooseneck ball in a GMC 3500 dually. Made the adapter myself, but it's just a copy of this one:

www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-hitches/ranch-hitch-adapter.htm

Several times in hilly campgrounds others struggle to get hitched up with the fifth wheel if the truck and trailer arnt's both level. All I have to do is get the hitch over the ball and I can get hooked up.

Last fall the wife and I took the camper to a dealer thinking to trade for a newer unit, and the salesman started in on a long line about ratings and DOT rules and warrenty if we use the adapter and etc., I told him I wans't interested in pulling anyting else so when he found out he was losing the deal all of a sudden the gooseneck adapter was all OK.

I used a Cody brand coupler gooseneck adapter on my 5th wheel. I only have a 27 ft. I don't think any rv manufacturer will recommend using an adapter on the 5th wheel pin. I never had a problem. I don't think I would use one on a really big and heavy fiver. Now I use the B&W turnover hitch with a Companion fith wheel.

Some RV mfg will deny warranty coverage on the pin structure if a gooseneck adapter is used due to the stress from the leverage the adapter causes. You would have to check with the mfg if adapters are ok to use.

i think you would be going in the wrong direction . converting a gooseneck to a fifthwheel is worth doing . its alot easier backing into and hooking up than the goosenecks are.

I was thinking of using one on my 32' Carri-Lite, but decided to check with the factory. The guy asked for my serial number, then said it would not be adviseable for me.
