Worst Tractor?

Since posted earlier about what is the best tractor how about what is the worst tractor any of you have experienced? Mine has got to be the IH 464 Gas.

An IH 354 Gas was not very impressive.

I used to work for a farmer who had lots of old junky tractors. He had an Allis Chalmers 180 that was in pretty sad shape. It jumped out of gear constantly

He also had a Muir Hill 110 that was a total junker, there wasn't a thing on it that worked right and the pto spun all the time, which made it lots of fun to spread manure with.

He also had an IH 1466 with the wonderful Coleman FWA kit on it. Talk about something that required a back forty just to turn around on!

How did you know that he hated John Deere equipment? He saw John Deere as an expensive way to farm and wouldn't look at a green piece of equipment because he thought their parts prices were higher.

I had three bachelor uncles who lived and farmed together. They were such John Deere freaks, they wouldn't even buy anything aftermarket. If John Deere didn't make it, they didn't need it.

For that reason, my father refused to own a piece of John Deere equipment. I was somewhere in between. When I farmed, I had a JD combine and a few other pieces of green machinery. I still have a John Deere #5 sickle bar mower. (Who doesn't?)

Worst tractor was when I was a kid, we had an Oliver 70. It wasn't a bad tractor, if you could luck out and get it started.

Well I would have to say one that will not start when you need it. But if I had to pick one or 2 I would say the JD 1010. Problem from the get go but there are others

thats funny because the deere dealership here always has a full shop with tractors in the lot waiting their turn.

Anything thats broke down and not paid for yet, or a WC or WD if you have got to row crop with them!

Dad had a 460 IH gas once, you ran the throttle with one hand and the choke with the other! Should have wired the choke shut. I was loading round bales once and was disgusted with the power thinking the gov. was lazy, I tied some twine on to the arm and pulled, the gov. was wide open! What an underpowered, cold blooded, gas drinking, light built piece of junk. Never so glad as when it left and the farm is doing fine without that pi$$ poor example of a tractor , actually that piece of binder crap wasn't even worthy of being called a tractor.

76 John Deere 4630 Powershift gutless dam wonder plowing. It was suppose to replace our 5020. On it sickest day our 5020 would plow circles around that 4630 and leave it trying to figure out where that 5020 went!
The only place this 4630 tractor shined was on grain cart duty. it would pull a fully loaded A&L Grain cart from the far end of the field to where the trucks sat 1/2 mile away in hi gear then unload in short order and get you back to the far end to catch on the run. So the combine wouldn't have to wait on you.
Second summer we had it it went to getting hot we tried every trick we knew and couldn't stop it from getting hot till we replaced the factory steel radiator with an aftermarket copper core one. That was a night mare figuring it out, NO Deere didn't help out at all on that.
Later,
John A.
PS you Deere Guys don't get mad, Just because it has green paint doesn't mean it is perfect!
My opinion on worst tractor!
Later, JAS

This one is easy. Massey Ferguson 1085. Tractor was afraid of work since it spent every spring in the shop. Hydraulics, Pto, charge pump, Input shafts. the only good thing on the tractor was an economical 4 cylinder perkins. Finally got rid of it at 1200 hours as is where is since it was still at the edge of the field and wouldn't move.

JD 5320. Gutless wonder...at least until I had the injector pump turned wide open. It"s an assembly of parts made all over the Globe, evidently by the lowest bidder, and it shows. Lightweight, always requires a counter weight on the three point to lift anything beyond a bucket of sawdust.

Just really dissatisfied with it.

Case 830 Case-O-Matic, no power, kept cracking heads, hydraulics were worthless. Just a plain lemon of a tractor. Had a 730 that was a trouble free tractor, just the normal wearing out type things.

This one suprises me, we had a 1085 for a number of years. It wasn t the most comfortable to shift or operate tractor made, but we never had one once of trouble with it. That perkins darned near made fuel, the hyd were real strong. It was a great short tractor for on the haybine. The only reason I got rid of it was cause I needed more horsepower and couldn t afford to keep both tractors.

Maybe part of the reason we liked it was because it replaced a 3020 gas my dad had bought. It was one of those Dupont overhauls. I don t know if those gassers were bad tractors or not, but ours was always broke down. Motor issues, hyd problems. We put enough parts in that one to buy it twice over..

I never had one that was a "worst;" did have one I didn't like, a John Deere MT. Hard to get on and off of, some implements difficult to put on but they did have a nice hydraulic set up. And it was a snow plowing fool. But--compared to others I've had and still have, it wasn't a keeper.

JD8850 (sorry Plowhand) hot noisey, the crown wheel and pinion sounded like it could let go at any second, rough ride, heavy on fuel.

IH 385 hard to get parts for, terrible loader, hydraulics are so slow you can put a tape measure next to the loader bucket to see if its moving, clutch pedal is operated up and down, not fore-aft like on my Deere 2955 so you get leg cramps after running the thing for 20 minutes, just a pain in the pants tractor.

Lol we had all those problems PLUS the engine wouldn't stay together, head gasket annually, rings semi-annually.They were a great tractor if you had them turned down to say 60 hp,but turn them up to 85 like the dealer we bought ours from said they were designed to run at,POOF.

Any of the small utility tractors Deere made from the M the 435. For me, just not enough room to be comfortable operating them. I don't know how many times I've cracked my shin, quickly pushing in the clutch while looking to the rear, or ahead.

JD 3720. Doesnt even have a 1000 hours on it and Ive replaced the three point arms five times. One time was truly my fault, I backed into a tree with the corner of the box blade. The other times were random mowing, grading, disking and it just would snap when raising the implement and once dragging a box blade full of dirt. The draft arm has broken right where the lifting arm hooks up twice and that lift arm has broke three times. 250 dollars every time for each thing, no help from Deere. Its cast iron so I cant weld it up, can you even weld cast iron and it hold? I love the loader and hydro tranny but they need to fix that rear hitch. Wont buy another new compact from Deere, hetcho en India! A new Kubota"s in my future I think. Caleb

Absolutely and uncontested was a 560 IH D Wheatland. It lasted 3 years on our farm, it never completed a season without major work. Injector problems, 2 head gaskets, rear end work, multiple leaks, axle problems, just a real dud. We had an understanding dealer who loaned us a WD9 each of those three years, the 9 worked well, it is possible that the 560 saw some abuse, I was too you to know. But the older 9 stood up to the same treatment,
