and feels alot better. the bearing noise isnt even as bad but i think thats not related. Gas tank is going to a radiator shop for cleaning and sealing so i'll never have to worry about it again and then, after some paint, the B will finally be restored, although i do have to fiddle with the carb some. This is a great feeling, thank you so much to everyone whos helped me get this far.

Hey Lanse...

Something that you may want to consider before you go to sanding everything by hand with the 40 grit. If you were to use a finer grit, and not remove as much of your brushed on paint, you can get still smooth everything out enough to spray over it, and get a nice finish.

I'd also advise before you start that phase of the project, go over to the Paint and Bodywork discussion board, and get some pointers from CNKS and the other gurus there. They might be able to give you some advice that will help you save time, paint, aggravation, and get the finish you want the first time.

Keep up the good work, Lanse. As Brian said, the 40 grit is a bit severe. It removes a lot of stuff in a hurry but the scratches it leaves behind will stand out like a sore thumb after you spray the paint. Some 180 (or something close)wet sandpaper dipped in water will do wonders for removing the scratches. You can sand away with one sheet for a long time if you keep it wet and it'll remove a lot more material than you realize. If the sheetmetal isn't too rough forget the 40 and just use the wet, it'll remove a lot more paint than you realize. Warm water will keep your hands warm. Now if you're REALLY patient, some 2000 grit wet after the 180 will make her shine like a million bucks. Jim
 
Lance good work. That oil reminds me of a car worked on about 30 years ago. Guy said it would turn over. Checked oil. Thick. Found out he had put nothing but STP oil treatment in it for along time. Expensive rebuild as it was big block Chev. Use fine grit paper as the other guys said. Make it a lot easier and shinier.
