What's between here Maine in mid May?

My wife and I are looking at going on a road trip in May, the week before Memorial day. We already had our vacation approved back in January when we were still planning on going to Disney, but with the condition of our finances that was nixed.

Now we're gonna go on a road trip to Maine and visit her bestfriend who moved to Maine, way up in the NE corner right near Canada. Forget the name of the town right now, I'll have to look it up.

Any good tractor shows or anythign else between Wisconsin and Maine that time of May?

Don,I belong to Maine Antique Tractor Club but I dont think any of our shows start till June but not sure. You could check our web site and see.I think its -Maine Antique Tractor Club.com Hoss[in Maine]

you must have driven on RT.90, the NYS Thruway, otherwise you missed a lot of beautiful "big" lakes full of large trout ready to be caught and the "steam museum" as well

Don, how's this;94 stop overnight downtown Chicago, steak dinner then a real blues bar* then to Detroit and a stop at the Henry Ford and Greenfield village, then head to Canada and across.

Well if your into sports there are 5 Hall of Fames on the way and 1 rock and roll in Cleveland.Probably some tractor shows in PA that time of year.Ours in CT start around the 1 st or 2nd week of May.

May is kind of early here in Maine, I don't think there's much going on on the tractor front, that and there's not really a ton of shows and stuff like that up here anyway.

So not knowing where your destination is going to be I really am not sure what to tell you. If you end up on the northern end of the state you could go check out the potato operations, they should just about out of snow by then. :p

Ag in the rest of the state is kind of hit or miss. We've got a lot of Blue Berries around here and there's big barons downeast. Not much to see there though in May, probably lots of Bees.

Coastal Maine might be just as interesting, the the lobster men should have their "water tractors" in full tilt by then.

Not much happening in Vermont that I can think of in mid May. Maple sugaring will be well over with by then. It'll be time to plant a garden. The snowbirds will be returning to their summer camps/homes on the lake about that time. There should be some excellent bull-pout fishing in the rivers.

I honestly can't think of anything else for that time of year. You should see lots of farmers spreading manure and planting their corn in May.

There is a tractor pull in Barton VT that usually takes place the day before Memorial day. there are also plow days, some earlier, some later. the schedule isn't out yet or maybe they made sure not to send it to me.

Are you figuring on comming thru Ohio on south side of Lake Erie or going thru Canada on the north side of the lake? Would help people think of things.

My daughter use to drive from MD to Maine, but she now flies to NH and rents a car and drives up to Maine. She said to watch out for the moose crossing the roads. Hal

You might like the Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Owls' Head ME. They have a huge collection of cars, trucks, airplanes bicycles etc. from before 1930. I don't recall tractors, but they might have some. You can find it ohtm.org, I think. I grew up in ME and used to try to go there every year if I could.

Don't really know yet, I guess it depends on what's going on and where?

I also don't know when you're required to have a pass port to get into Canada, and I don't have one yet. Been thinking about it, but I rarely go outside of WI, and never been out of the states.

Traffic in Chicago I always try to hit there after midnight. Studebaker Museum in INdiana I think Cheaper gas in INdiana and Ohio you can make it all the way to Indiana on a tank of fuel if your south of 29 in Wi. Fill up at the first rest stop and at the last in INd then all the way to the east side of OHIO. In New York take 87 east avoid the
interstate toll North on Rt 12 to Norwich to NorthEast classic car museum the west to Cooperstown Farmers Museum Baseball Hall of Fame and Fenimore house which is an Art Museum you may want to skip that. In Burlington Vt. there is a nice Hemmings Auto Museum and a couple others. If you get anywhere near Shelburne Vt there is the grandaddy of all Museums on Rt.7 Fort Ticonderoga is in NY on the West side of Lake Champlain. from Shelburne we take the Ticonderoga Ferry across to Vt. from there.
Bring lots of change for the tolls thru Chicago

(quoted from post at 06:33:38 03/13/09) My daughter use to drive from MD to Maine, but she now flies to NH and rents a car and drives up to Maine. She said to watch out for the moose crossing the roads. Hal

There's an old joke up here about a tourist that asked an old timer about the Moose crossing signs on the side of the road. You see the tourist really wanted to see a Moose and wanted to know how long they would have to wait at the signs to see one.......

The old timer responded "You never can tell".

Owls head is great if you like old Autos and Airplanes. They do have a Truck and Tractor rally but it's in July.

Still a place to check out though!
