All you military users of Tricare for life insurance beware that the new administration is trying to cut our benefits for all the military folks and their dependants as well. Wan't to charge $2,400/4880 + a year for retirees and active duty military personnel. On page 189 of the Congressional Budget office report Vets of all status are in serious trouble if this goe's through. These are the men and woemen that fought for our country, the ones that are in now and the injured as well as the ones that served 20 years or more . The new administration wants to save 53 billion dollars over the next 10 years by hurting those that were promised coverage. Our Goverrnment backing out on it's word ?????
This means that the VET who has been seriously injured has to pay while the crack head down the street get's free medical care. Now that's real health care in action ! Write your elected officals and scream till their sick of it and protect those who have and do protect us.

If I can hi-jack your thread a little.......gotta sign up for Medicare in the next 2 or 3 months; am already covered under Tricare-for-life. Have only just begun to do a little research.......am I gonna need a Medicare supplementary policy or will I be good with just the Tri-care?

The way mine works is : I pay the $93 out of my SS check and TRICARE is the second payer on claims. I have not had to pay anything to date with this dual coverage. If you don't take the Medicare Plan (not the part D) then you will be penelized 10% for every year yoy don't , this is no good. So it is better to take the Medicare at their rate and TrICARe for free (you ahve earned it too). The best answers to this are at the TRICARE numbers and your local SS office. TRICARE folks are great at answering questons and pointing you in the right direction(s). If you have further Q's please email and I will be glad to help a comrade. JIM

Absolutely. At 65 Tricare for life reverts to a "secondary Insurer". That is they pay what Medicare doesn't So if you DON'T have a first payer then Tricare won't pay anything. So you MUST take the Part and and B.

I'm gonna do the Medicare; just didn't know if I was gonna need an additional insurance policy (to pick up where Medicare quit) or if the Tri-care was enough.

Like Gordo said (and me), Tricare will auotmatically be your second payer, or in your words, the supplement Insurance. That is the best way to go , and, if you take the"mail order" prescription drug offer with Tricare (free to you also) you can save even more money on your meds. Otherwise, you will automatically be enrolled in Tricare's standard precriptiion drug program that has attached co-pays with it every time you are issued RX's at your local pharmacy -- still a good very deal and is equal to and better in most cases than SS Part "D"; just cost's you more. When I retired 25 years ago I signed up with a Tricare Prime program called Johns Hopkins Uniform Services Family Health Plan (USFHP). Co-pays were $12 and Rx's were $3 or $9. I also took out a secondary policy through a retired military organization. but never had to use it.

When I hit 65 I found out I could stay in the program and did not have to take TFL. I signed up for Medicare Part B and the annual enrollment fees and co-pays for USFHP stopped. I only pay the monthly Part B cost and Rx's - $3 or #9. USFHP is the primary payer. My insurance card says "Do not bill Medicare". Since then I've had 3 cancer operations and never paid a dime. One of them involved over 30 hours of surgery.

USFHP is available in the greater Baltimore area. I would think similar programs are available elsewhere around the country. For folks that haven't yet hit 65 check with Tricare and do some research. I couldn't be happier with what I have.
