601 and 801 Ford Tractors

I have an old tractor (automatic transmission) and I have been asked to sell it. I don't know what I should ask as a fair price. It was running last summer, but now the battery is down.

The Select-O-Speed transmission is considered to be less desirable that the five-speed manual version, so consider that when comparing with similar tractors for sale in your area.

You absolutely must get the tractor running to get a fair price. No buyer will purchase any tractor, particularly a 601 or 801 SOS, without confirming that the transmission is good. Non-running, you're looking at scrap value (< 1000 bucks). Get it running and you should get between two and three thousand for the tractor, depending on condition. $2000 for a tractor in running condition but rough appearance, $3000 if running and good appearance. To get much more than $3000 would require the tractor to be in "like-new" condition.

Add a thousand bucks if it has a loader. Prices vary by region.

I just looked at a 801 yesterday. Looking in mint conditon.. new paint and comes with brush hog and a rear blade. He wants 2600 for it. As I said it has been redone and runs out really nice to. Perhaps this will help.

I think your $1000.00 for the loader is high. But, like you said it depends on the region. Here in IA, a loader to fit a 861 will fetch $500-700.00 depending on mfg. A Ford loader will bring the $700 if in very good shape with hyd dump. A Freeman (which is what I had on my 861) will bring $500.00 tops! I tried selling mine, good shape, with hyd dump.... the best offer I got was $375.00 and I had to take it off the tractor.

I agree with some of the other comments.

if the tractor won't run.. you are selling scrap.. and will get scrap price.

If the tractor has the SOS trans ( 671/681 or 871/881 ).. then it is not automatic.. it is a powershift GEAR tranny ).

Look on the bellhousing, aft of the starter for a 3-digit model number like I posted.. that and the sn will get you the year.

The SOS trans is queer.. if the motor don't run.. trans is locked.

if you have to pull it to load.. ther eis a traction disconnect on the rear by your ankles.. i forget which side for the hundred series.. but it will be a bar or lever to flip after you remove a nut or retaining bolt.. this free's the diffy up from the trans..

charge the battery and get her running.. might just need a charge and clean points.. will double your money for sure..

likely get around $2000 for a running sos.. vs $700-100 for a boat anchor..

I agree with the prices mentioned below. I have an 801 with 5 speed, runs good, good tires, and stright sheet metal on ebay now. It has a practically new 7 ft finishing mower with it. I have it listed with the finishing mower for $3600 or best offer. It has been listed for 9 days now and I have not had a single offer on it.

Non-running in my area maybe $300-500 running around $1500. In my area people do not like the SOs trannys so they do not bring much. Now if you get it up and running and it has real good tires and sheet metal and the tranny works 100% you may get more then what I said

The item ebay item number: 160319230150

My phone number is listed in the disription also. thanks
