Hey folks,
Anyone have experience with these vehicles? Wondering how they hold up and if they are tuff enough to pull a 2 1/2 ton trailer. What we are looking at has a 2.8 diesel engine with a 6sp manual or automatic trans.

Thanks, Dave

Guess they are called Liberty in the States???

Around here in NY, a Jeep Libertery is not something you would use to pull a 2 and a half ton trailer with! A F250 yes, but a jeep no. They are more like a suv for the family. Check the towing capicity on it.

Think it's too light? Speed limit here for pulling a trailer is 50 mph and the trailer has brakes. Much as I'd like to get another pickup, they just aren't practical here (would also be a daily driver). My little KIA Sportage does the job but makes hard work of hills. Another thing in play here is it's for the wife and has to fit her idea of style

My company car is a 2008 Jeep Liberty with 3.7 V6 and auto transmission. I wouldn"t want much of a trailer behind it except maybe one of those ones you carry a riding mower on for a short distance. It just desn"t have the weight for trailer towing. Newer Cherokees look pretty light, too.

If you had a handling/trailer package on it, and stiff sidewall tires, It would be well better than the Kia. But I would want a stiffer and longer wheel base than the Jeep. I own a CJ3B 1957, and it is not being connected to a trailer. JimN

front axles are smaller than my lawn tractor.

Too short of a wheelbase for that size trailer.

your asking it to pull something that out weighs it.

5000# vs.probably at the most 1700# don't sound like a good match.

Dave That may be good outfit ,, wife drives a 98 Laredo ,17.7 miles to gallon , Mileage is not a thrill neither is Get up An GO ,, But it is simple to work on , rarely needs anything repaired in170 ,000 mi.,Very adequete For alloccasions and events , I pulled soil tests one morning in it and entered the Jeep in the parade that afternoon All Shiny and clean .. Is far morecomfotrable to take on a 2 hour trip than Northstar Caddilac ..And the JEEP maintains a respectible stlye image no matter how old it is ..My 2 cents jim

Small little 2.8, like under 180 cubes? Better stay in low gear. Maybe second once in a while pulling 5 thousand lbs. Dave

make good mail route vehicles and have went thru several of them but would never want to pull anything larger than lawn mower with it.Anybody need a 2003 blazer

I looked it up - surprising enough if we are talking "Liberty" its rated at 5000 pounds towing capacity - about double what I thought it would be (I looked up a 2006 4X4 with a 3.7 gas - diesel is probably close). That covers your 2 1/2 ton trailer.

You'll find it a lot better than your Kia Sportage - a 2002 Sportage 4X4 is only rated at 2000 pounds towing.

It would definately be a step in the right direction.

My inspection papers have my Kia rated at 1800 kg, could be hitch design and speed limits also. Wife called about one of the Cherokees (your Liberty) and was told 2800 kg. Stopping is not a problem because all trailers over 750 kg max weight have a toung (pressure) activated brake system. It's just the pulling. If it's a step up from the Sporty, it should be OK.

Thanks, Dave
