OT- Weather and Sunspots?

The local weather guru says the reason for our continuing cold weather is lack of sunspot activity- and predicts a cold spring. Anybody know what he's talking about? This guy is a pretty good weather guy- Self taught, railroad engineer by trade, but has been doing the weather for local radio station for the past 25 years. Much better track record than the network guys. But I don't know about the sunspot angle.
 
From what I understand of solar activity and the weather (and it ain't much) solar activity doesn't just change in a day or two. Carbon dating of the remains of trees at high elevations and ice core and silt core samples prove without a shadow of a doubt,that the sun pulses. It's a 700 year cycle in which there is massive solar activity for 350 years followed by 350 years of calm. The years of high activity cause warming on earth,the lack of activity causes it to get colder. We peaked in the 20th century. Solar activity is ceasing and it's causing colder weather and will for the next three and a half centuties. As for WHY solar activity causes the heating and cooling,seems simple enough to me. The sun is hotter during the times of high activity,cooler during times of calm. I saw a show in TLC one time explaining why the pulsing occurs,but I ain't smart enough to have remembered it or able to really explain it.
 
You mean a hotter sun means a hotter earth? But Al Gore and his disciples say it's global warming. And we must listen and obey them for the answers.
 
Talk to any CBer or Ham operator and he will tell you that sun spots cycle every 7 years. Not having my CB anymore I am not sure where we are but any CBer will no the answer.

What are your credentials to expound on complex meteorological phenomenon? If you don't have any, it would make just as much sense for you to lecture us on Einstein's General Theory of Relativity complete with all the differential calculus.
 
What are Al Gores credentials to expound on complex meterological phenomenon? Is it written on the back of his Nobel Prize?
 
What are YOUR credentials to give your arrogant opinion on every topic on this board? It would make sense for you to just keep it to yourself.
 
The big magical ball of fire in the sky that warms the earth might have a little something to do with the earth's climate. But the global warming worshippers refuse to acknowledge the link.
 
It has to do with the suns heat output. It is not constant but is cyclic in nature. I have seen some data that shows the sun's heat output as a function of time and it's right in line with mean temperature data as a function of time, supporting the argument that the recent hot dry weather is due to increased solar output. This tends too show that the "global warming" we hear so much about is nothing more than part of a natural cycle of weather driven by the sun's cyclic heat output.

Now if we could only get the feds to consider these other possibilities instead declaring that man's to blame for all of this climate change......
 
I can. As a matter of fact, about 4 months ago I was having a conversation with a colleague of mine from the local university. Without prompting, this was his opinion, solar cycles, as well as many of his peers. He's a nuclear physisict. You must remember that the so-called majority of scientists supporting global warming may have a financial interest in it.
 
I like your name. You have a good sense of humor. When I was younger, I resembled J. Robert Oppenheimer and even wore a hat like his. Perhaps that is where I got my abundant views.
 
Jerry, The government is not interested in facts like you have stated here. They are using the nonsense of global warming to implement cap+trade on us. All they see, is dollar signs from the extra revenue from the cap+trade taxes they are going to collect. They say the companies are going to pay for their emisions,but those companies aren't going to pay. We are, every month when we get our electric bill, every time we fill our gas tank. We are going to pay more for everything that used energy to make or transport. It's all a big scam excuse for government to take more of our money. Jack
 
Eleven years, not seven. And the sun has been without spots for several years, longer than most historical normals.

I'd like to know if you are looking forward to the increased rates we will pay for energy of any kind, based on this total scam known as "ManMadeGlobalWarming". But you are a abundant kook, so I'll bet you're looking forward to having more of your money taken away by the big government you love so much. Jack
 
jack you are soooo right. The only people who pay taxes are consumers. "I'm gonna' tax the corporations..." is one of the the biggest lies out there. Corporations don't pay taxes, consumers do! And that's you and I.
 
That clown has NO CREDENTIALS, He won't even have a debate with anyone. This is a giant scam to take more of our money. They are going through with this B/S, and there isn't anything we can do about it. Jack
 
I think it is 11.86 years, the orbit of Jupiter around the sun. Whenever it gets close the large magnetic field excites the sun & produces larger flares.
