Well, I lied to you guys last week...

As you all know I"ve been looking for a new truck and I had "promised" to buy one last week. Well, I lied. I bought one today. 2006 Chevy 2500HD, 6.0, 4wd, ext cab, 5 speed manual, in fact, manual everything(including 4wd shifter), 4.10 gears, factory tow package with the brake controller, 47,000 miles, $14,900. I"m satisfied...finally. It was more than I was looking to spend, but I was impressed with the manual truck...to hard to find nowadays. Appreciate everyone"s input over the last couple of months.

You don't see them because they no longer offer a manual tranny in their trucks!

Right there with you bro. I looked forever to find a plain jane 3/4 ton with crank windows and regular cab, not to be found in this neck of the woods. I don't need anything fancy at all and would fell guilty driving something with leather seats out in the woods with me sweating like a wornout ol hog after me loading firewood or logs. I went ahead and had the engine and trans rebuilt in my 71 3/4 ton custom camper chevy. It is still a nice truck and drives like a new one and the a/c still works good. It has cloth seat also that isn't ripped! I will drive it from Indiana next week to Oklahoma and back. Fixing the engine and trans was less than a new truck payment. Still a nice newer one isn't bad either. I drive a friends 2005 GMC once in a while since he doesn't see well anymore.

What kind of gas mileage does it get?

That sounds like a good price to me.

That truck is probably $35k new.

Not $35K.
I drive the same machine except it's standard cab, auto, air but everything else manual. Bought it new off the lot 12/06. $21K

Previous owner swears it gets 16 mpg driving it 55 to 60, and that was after I had already bought it. I don't think he's to bad off because at 55mph the tach is just about 2k. Price wise, trucks are high around here....incredibly high and thats even if you can find them. Example, before I bought this truck from an individual, the local dealer had a 2006 1500hd that was a full crew cab, no leather, but other than that, was pretty much loaded, 40k miles, was asking $24,900. I argued, cussed, and told them no wonder GM was going bankrupt with dealers like them, then they came down to $23,900 and acted like I was stealing it. I figured this truck new, with the ext cab would have been in $25k range...anywhere else in the country that is. Here, they would have been in the upper 20's....

I have a 2002 2500HD, 6.0, automatic but manual 4wd. I get about 14mpg in around town driving but get a steady 15.5 at 65mph out on the highway. I paid $14,000 for it in 2006 with 41,000 miles. It's been a real workhorse and a keeper. Had to do the brakes at about 65,000.

Not only last week --- but the week before, and the week before that, and the week before that, and on and on and on ......

I have a K 2500 crew cab with a 6 Ltr. auto trans, 3.72 rear end. and it gets 17 MPH at 60 MPH. so that sounds about right. I get 13.5 pulling a camper "weight 5700 lbs". also at 60 MPH. Chev stoped putting standerds in those trucks last year. I have a 427 CID chev with a 5 spd standerd setting in an out building waiting for the right truck to come along is out of school bus.

Times sure have changed! I was looking for a truck 3 years ago, and what you got was what I was looking for. I was lookng for an 00 to 02 chevy 2500 with a stick and 4X4. Closest thing I could find was on in Frankfort KY (4 hours away) and the salesman talked it up so much on the phone I made arangements at the bank and got a buddy to ride up there in my car cause I was going to drive it back. It was crap from the word go. The clear coat was scratched all up but the scratches did not match, it was at least 3 trucks that had been made into one. I thought the manager was going to deck me and my buddy before we left. After he got done screaming and cussing, my buddy just looked at him and said "so did you put this cheap a$$ after market, Krylon paint bumper on or was it come from one of the 3 trucks this'ns made of?"

Any way it was junk, reg. cab with 80,000 miles on it and 5 years old at the time and the guy still would not come off $19,000.

Glad you had better luck than me.

I ended up with a 93 ford one ton. I am happy with it and it was cheap but it sure would be nice to have a newer one.

Hey, good find. I also had a hard time finding a plain old Chevy Work Truck a few years ago. Finally found a 2001 k1500 and drove 50 miles (long ways in a metro area) to get a v6 stick 4x4 with manual everything. It was the cleanest truck I've ever seen. There was no dirt/dust on the FRAME (yes, I crawled under) and it had under 50k on it. The reason I wanted it was that my oldest daughter had a Ford Ranger stick that I taught her on and I wanted her 2 younger sisters to learn to drive a stick. Friends kind of chuckled, but at 19, youngest one has it on Facebook with the caption "My bada$$ truck". It's seen its share of mud (buried it to the axles several times) and once it got it's first scratch from going thru the brush, I gave up on trying to keep it pristine. It's made for workin' and I love it.
