OT lube for brass bushing

I need to figure out what to use as lube for the steel shaft through brass bushing at the bottom of a bread maker. It"s where the stirrer passes through the bottom of the bread bucket down to the motor etc. It got stuck up and the motor couldn"t turn it I"ve removed and freed the shaft and cleaned everything up good but what should I do to lube it when I reassemble it? I should note I"m too cheep to go buy some special food grade grease just for this.

If the brass isn't galled up it should be self lubricating. If you must lube it Crisco, cooking oil or petroleum jelly probably won't contaminate the bread and kill you! I've used all three for lubricants in a pinch...

Hit it with a spray of Crisco, Pam, or other food grade cooking oil, like you would use on the cooking pans on the stove. Lube will probably bake out the next time you use the baker. Probably some dough got into the bearing which is what froze it up. I often have to soak mine in water to loosen the paddle for removal when cleaning.

PS, the lubes that Tompson Center and others sell for their muzzle loader guns are simply a good grade of vegetable shortening.

Get a dab from a restaurant that has a soft serve ice cream machine,it comes in a tube like tooth paste and a thimble full will last you for years. If you were in Missouri I would give you some.
