Do any of you know of any "serious" hillbilly bands that play the washtub bass, washboard, etc.?

Call me simple, but I just love that stuff even though I have all of my teeth.

I started out on a rhythm Washboard, we had a guy play the wash tub bass.

You can find some at the bluegrass festivals still using such instruments. The god ol stand up bass is kinda dying but you will find them there also.

One instrument I haven't seen applied is a hand saw.

I had two fiddles one time , sold them cause I couldn't play either one. LOL

But this link will give anyone a boost to try.

We have a Washtub base and also a lady that plays the washboard in our little group, we play at nursing homes, librarys and Churches. also have 2 Fiddlers, 2 Guitars, Mandolin & Banjo, we have a ball & will not play for money, but we do play for food. LOL

you mean what they call a "gut bucket" Called that because they used a cat gut bass fiddle string. String goes through the a hole in the center of the wash tub and the stick sits on the lip of the washtub bottom. Pull the stick to change notes. Put foot on opposite side of lip from the stick to keep it on the floor.
