Oil change time

How many hours do you put on your machinery before an oil change? I can't make it through seeding or harvest without an oil change in the middle, so I end up at roughly 150. My truck ends up with 6000-7000 miles on a change, but probably should be done at 5000.
 
Old diesel tractor-100 HR. Gas tractor- 150 HR. or once a year. Gas pickup/car- 2000 Mi. using mineral oil. In reality it sometimes doesn't happen this way on my farm, but this is the general rule, right or wrong.Jim

Oil and equipment today is different in 2009 than 1969 where many beliefs originate.
Today vehicles are fuel injected,electronic ignition, computer controlled and burn low sulfur unleaded fuel.
People understand LP engines over the past 50+ years having long plug life, clean running and fresh looking oil.
People don't realize the gassers of today run as clean as the LP's of the past.
Certainly gassers of old when running cold with high sulfur leaded gasoline with the choke often forgotten. With 1/2 plugged air filters and fouled plugs along with tired points. The DID need for frequent changes BACK then.
I never seen the sense of draining out clean usable oil that has plenty of additives left.
 
My pickup,maybe every 6-7 years. I was changing it everytime I put new batteries in it,but I got off my schedule when I put new ones in it 2 years ago. Maybe next new set?
 
I'm sure others will disagree with me, but following the recommendations in the owner's manual is my choice.
 
My sons new pontiac G5 has 7800 miles on it and the oil change meter in the dash shows 26% left yet till oil change time.The oil looks like new yet.My wifes honda runs around 8000 miles before it tells you to change oil.
 
I change tractor oil at 100 hours, including the filter. Never too busy not to follow that schedule, even in the middle of field work. What"s a half-hour? Have 3 JDs with 8800, 9000, 11000 hours on them- the 11000 burns a pint in 100 hours. All are original engines, no overhauls.
