Farmall International 674 Diesel

To all fellow forumers

I live in the UK and over the passed 2 years I have been slowly restoring an International 674 series, Diesel and now I have a small problem which I am hoping someone can help me out.

I have bought a brand new battery for it and connected everything up, but when I turn it over it struggles to do one revolution, it"s like the battery is flat but it is brand new, my initial thought was whether the solenoid on the starting motor is gone or going, now I am in a spot of bother and I am therefore hoping someone could assist me.

Also, the wiring diagram that I have for it is very minimal and I am hoping that again someone could help me out on a full schematic wiring diagram for it, it has a cab but as far as I know it is not the deluxe model, (when I got the tractor it was in a very poor state!!)

Also, I am hoping that someone could help me out on some very small metal work and decals, if sitting in the cab on your left there are the range and speed controlling levers, there is also a parking brake bolted to the mudguard, i am after the plate that is directly under the parking brake lever, it bolts to the mudguard, the foot pan and part of the seating pan, again I am hoping that there is someone out there that can help along with all the decals for this model.

There is also a component on the tractor that I am unsure of what it is, (I think that its some sort of Vacuum Sensor??), so I have taken a photo of this and attached it to this message along with the place where the plate goes. I am also hoping that someone could not only assist with the items that I have requested but more importantly whether someone could ascertain the problem with starting.

Best Wishes

Mark

Never worked on that tractor, but do you have new battery cables? Sometimes that problem is caused by bad cables or connectors. I assume you have checked the charge or charged fully the new battery(not a likely problem). If you suspect the starter I would take it off and have it checked at a starter repair shop.

BTW, I have seen those used tractors imported here to the US, not recently because of changes in the exchange rate, and a lot of them were cab tractors with the cab in poor shape. The importers usually cut varying amounts of the cab off and put some paint over the rust. Actually, not much reason to keep cab here since they don't have air conditioning on them and AC is a requirement for a cab tractor here in the hot Southeast.

Hi Mark,

You may want to have your starter checked out to be sure it is good. Check all the cells in your new battery, I've seen new batteries even be bad. Touch all your cable connections after cranking the engine, if any of the connections are warm or hot it is a bad connection and they need to be cleaned and retightened.

Let us know what you find.

Hi Sir

Thank you for your message, yes when I did crank the engine the cables were getting warm, after sending my first message to the forum I took out the injectors so that there is no compression, the engine turned over but not as fast as I hoped, the cables still got a little warm so from that I am assuming that the connections are dirty and or loose, so I have now taken the cable, (+) off and I am going to give it a damn good clean, I had to charge my new battery too because there was just not enough power in that battery to turn the engine over for long, so I might end up having a replacement.

I will let you know how I get on from that, also do you know anything about the other information I provided along with the images, best wishes

Mark
