Bud in WV nuclear fuel storage container images

buickddeere,

It's easy to post a picture. Just post a message and then scroll down to where it says upload photo, then browse thru you files til you get to your picture and then click on open and then click on continue. Your done.

B & D ,

I'm totally ashamed of you , the guy that always
gives every one a hard time about getting a service
manual and reading it , ought to be able to figure
out how to post a picture. Even I ,the most
computer challanged one figured it out.

george

Yes it is hugely embarrassing. It hasn't been for the lack of trying however. I'm using firefox and noscript for a browser. There maybe a work around to figure out yet.

There's not an option for uploading, he has to have the picture already on the net, like in photobucket, then use optional image url.

That'd be cool to see! Be interesting to see if your's and ours look the same....can't imagine there's too many ways to build them though!
I don't know how to post a pic here, either....I freely admit that I'm a LOT better at dumb looks than good answers...
If she's got some shots of the "glow" in the fuel pool or anything there's probabaly some folks here that's enjoy seeing it. Personally, I'd save it in my pics 'cause I was never able to get any pics from the containment area.
If nothing else, shoot it to my email - take care - good to hear from you!

Found it! It's in the "Community Album".
Those look similar to what we used for shipping LSA Rad Waste. Our dry fuel canisters were (are? I've been retired for 6 years) about 15 ft tall x 5 or 6 ft dia 316 SS. They were laid horizontal and slid into the concrete tombs with tuggers - just like installing a generator rotor.

You'll like this - at our place (name withheld to protect the guilty - & stupid) they used the small railroad engine from the fossil plant next door to move the caste close and so they could load it. Then they borrowed the BIGGEST John Deere tractor I've ever seen -4WD w/8 tandum tires 7+ft tall to put the caste trailer in position to load the tomb.
After I was long gone (thank God!!!), some of the guys tried to move 2 EMPTY castes on rail cars - against procedure! They found out the RR engine didn't have enough "oomph" to stop 2 of the castes and rail cars on a 3º incline. I heard it was right exciting when that puppy skidded through 2 closed & manned secruity gates at about 3 mph.....
The ONLY thing in their favor was the caste weren't loaded yet. Glad I wasn't around - they're lible to STILL be doing paperwork to cover that one!

Security seems to involve the wide eyed psycho types at the US power plants. One would think they were guarding a ware house full of backpack nuke warheads.
I could imagine their reaction with the rail cars rolling through the gates. It's a wonder nobody got shot.
We had one guy on a US tour get a surprise. He emptied his pockets, belt buckle off etc and went through the metal detector. The alarm went off and he found him self looking down the rifle barrels of some security types. Who were hoping to be heroes for shooting a terrorist. Turns out our guy missed a dime in his pocket.
We have upgraded security to armed guards after 911. They have mostly settled down and see the "big picture". There wasn't even turnstiles with prox cards until the mid 1980's.
Anybody wants some used fuel they can just dive into the pool and try to carry it way. They won't get very far. Or they can try to haul off a fuel flask in a pickup truck and see how far and how fast they get there.
