Did my part stimulating the economy

I picked up my new (used) car last night- a 2003 Passat. So far it's a blast to drive and this one is loaded. Kinda nice having a nice car for a change, after my acheiva blew a head gasket.

Sold it last night right before getting my new one, so I don't have to deal with it anymore.

Good enough car to be nammed after flatulent noise ?

j/k of course.
But it is a strange anme.

I did my part too. Spent over $200.00 on an exhaust system and a new wood flat bed for my '90 Toyota PU. Tripled the value of the truck overnight.

German engineering.Need say no more.Enjoy the ride.Did they call you back to work yet?

At least you didn't tell us you spent $500 per rim each and $250 per tire each to do your part. OH, we are forgetting about the $3000 stereo you could have had put in. Toyota's are pretty hard to beat, but the pickups did have MAJOR rust issues. DOUG

I'm too poor right now to stimulate the economy much. Come to think of it, I have not bought a thing since December when my truck needed tires badly.

I did go for a ride a couple of days ago and spotted a pretty red regular cab short box 2009 F150 STX 4x4 on the dealer's lot facing the road. It was just a few dollars shy of $30k. Personally, I would have to think a long time before I spent that kind of money on a vehicle that would depreciate to nothing in a decade in these Vermont winters.

How do you figure you're helping the economy by buying foreign products. I've been boycotting McDonalds since they announced they were importing all their beef. Having second thoughts now. rw

I just bought a D-17 Allis this week. Better investment than the stock market. If nothing else it can be used to dig a hole to bury me in.

About 15 years ago, when I was an outside salesman for a private label auto parts company, I read an article in a trade magazine that said that everything else being approximately equal, an outside salesman driving a domestic badged vehicle will always be more successful than one driving an import badge.

A fellow salesman and I proved that. I drove a Dodge van and he drove a Toyota. He got thrown out of about as many places as he did business with. When I quit the job, he bought my Dodge at the end of my last day.

It's all about a patriotic image.

It's 6 years old.. Don't imagine Germany is getting any of that money.
Enjoy. Treat it right and it'll be around a long time. I just got rid of a 91 wagon that is still going strong with no rust.

Yup. I was only laid off for a week. They're bringing back a couple guys on Monday that were laid off for almost 2 months, and the rest they got rid of. They kinda over hired some so we just couldn't run the machines efficiently anymore.

On a good day, I run 2 machines side by side. Before they had another guy working next to me so I could only run 1, and therefore our production numbers would suffer. I think they're bringing him back, but putting him in a different area.

Like Dave says, it's 6 years old. How much money is that realy going to make for the germans? It's helping the local economy more than anything.

I absolutely love my new car. Great ride, good sound system, lots of power, and lots of other goodies. I just don't like GM products anymore, never did like Dodge. Ford I have nothing against, but I like VW's. Did buy it from a Ford dealer though...

Rust is the enemy. If I could I'd buy another Toy in a heartbeat. Perfect truck for me and better than any US truck I've owned, and yes, I've owned all 3 brands.

And I understand there's more American parts in the Toy than in the big 3!

There is not money going to Germany, but the money could have been used to buy American. That would have stimulated the economy.

Just curious... An American car dealer (Ford) has a foriegn car on the lot in America. He's got a Toyota, Mazda, VW, SAAB, Ford and a Yugo. All are used and sell for 1000 bucks ea.
Now, you and 5 of your buddies all go and buy every one. Of those 6 1k buck checks that helps the dealer stay open and pay bills (remember, it's in America), which check/checks do the most for the current economy?

Humor me please and explain your answer.....

Dave

Goose, I can relate to that. When I turned 65 and went on medicare, several different people came to my place to explain their medical plan that they were selling. The one that drove a toyota I never even considered. If they want to give their money to Japan and in the long run hurt our country, I am not going to give them any of my money. What ever country has the most money wins kind of like playing monopoly.)
