Ooooohhh the embarrassment!!!!

Few days ago I posted the symptoms of an ailing M7500 Kubota.
Bad injectors? sticking valves? worn pump? out of time? Nope!
Seems the owner, a very meticulous person when it comes to
maintenance, had gone to some Kubota school where he was told
not to change the air filter until some indicator?? told him to do so.
Well it never told and things just slid along for 15 years. It was
totally plugged. After a cleaning, it runs like a top. This further
bolsters the adage always check the easy stuff first>

My wifes 98 astro van was a power window nightmare.Had it 7 yrs, replaced drivers side 3 times, passenger once (motor).Im by far no master mechanic, but for some reason I am very inner door chalanged.I cringe at the thought of taking off door panel and tackling a job.Well she loved that van so much, didnt I go and buy her another one in 05(last year they made them). This ones been fine so far.

Good Luck
Stan

Yep I've seen those little air flow indicators not to be affective at all. The filter has to be clogged pretty bad before the indicator is in the yellow.

It's just like those recovery tanks on the cooling systems. They can have coolant in them but that doesn't say the radiator has any in it.

About 20 yrs ago I was working with a "journeyman" mechanic, not a bad one, just more experienced. We rebuilt a d3 cat and had the engine in and making final adjustments, etc. Everytime we went to lunch he would put a wad of that blue paper towel on a roll in the air inlet to keep the dirt out until we made the final air cleaner connections. You guessed it. We fired it up to check it out and let it warm up. After a minute or so it started missing and then the pretty glowing embers poured out. A minute or so later no harm no foul. Good thing no one saw us. ;)

The sorry part of a clogged air cleaner is the high gas temps that it causes in the engine and the reduction if power. It's more important to have cleanair filters in a diesel than in a gas engine. In a gas engine it only limits power. In a diesl it can cause overheated piston crowns besides the loss in pawer.

From "Looking to Hire" above, Thurlow thought you might interested. If so, call me at work 308.487.3465 ask for Dan. If not interested, don't respond. Thanks!!
