O/T pickup oil change cost

What's it normally cost to have the oil changed in a small pickup for you guys? I've changed my own for as long as I remember but I finally broke down and had it changed in town today because of the bum shoulder. I went to a mom and pop type place that I'd never been to before and they tackled it like a nascar pit stop. She checked the tires, washed the windows and vacuumed and he changed the oil and greased. I just got into a good conversation with another customer and they were done.

The bill was a little over $28.00. I thought it was a good deal for the amount of service I got. what's it cost in your neck of the woods? Jim

At our dealership it will set you back about $39.00 for a 5qt. change. I'm surprised we do as many as we do.

Sounds like you got a good price. More importantly is if the ones doing it have done it for awhile and know what they are doing. Many places just hire any flunky off the street and turn them loose on your car.

One needs to build a relationship with a good mechanic,,, you are not gonna find one at a fast lube so why let them do the wham bam thank you mam on your car

A good mechanic will check all fluids, tires brakes, and take the car for a test drive, he should B able to tell you any needed repairs that are needed are any future maintenance thats needs to B done so you can plan and budget it

what I don't like about fast lubes,,, its a numbers game,,, git'em in and out fast as they can,,, their money is in numbers. So they could care less about your tires, brakes, any leaks are any other maintenance parts that about to fail

I have a pile of good tires that if they were rotated they would have got a EZ 20K more miles out of them but cuzz they went to a fast lube the rotation was neglected,,, thats a example of what you loose from a fast lube

I have towed in cars were the tie rod ends broke,,, jumped the guy about maintenance,,, most of the time its just been thru a fast lube and was never greased

I know for a fact most fast lubes have only one guy down their that has to service 3 bays and cars are lined up to the street,,, do you really think he has time to look over the underside of your car,,, even if he did do you think he would recommend a tire rotation with cars lined up to the street,,, nope its not in the cards,,, it will fudge up the numbers at the end of the day

In my wildest dreams I could not dream of doing a service on a car and not take it for a test drive then when I return open the hood, look back under the car just to be on the safe side.

To me its about trust and not money are how fast it can be done,,, Value added to the service has no price ,,, the value added by someone that wants you to get the best value out of you car

Most of the time I can take a customer that goes to a quick lube and show them were going their in the long run cost them money not save them money

To the quick lube it does not mater new are old,,, they all count as numbers at the end of the day

Now days most quick lubes are owned my major oil companies,,, interested in sell'n their product and thats all ,,, OIL comes to mind

Once oil companies took over the quick lubes they controlled the motor oil market,,, think about it,,,, the motor oil market has always increased and never came down,,, they don't have to sit on it they have created a outlet to sell it

I have always said most any business can succeed if you can make it EZ to drive up to the front door,,, sum'n to do with convenience

here in ontario & general garage that i have known & trusted for 30 years $38 for truck,

canadian dollars that is

Jim, sounds like a good price for all they did. Here in Georgia our Ford dealer has an oil change xpress lane.In and out in about 30 min for $30. They change oil and filter, air the tires and look it over. Normally do my own xcept in the winter.

Hobo, I think the places like Jiffy Lube you only go there for a oil change and filter. If you want your whole car checked over than there are places that will do that. I get my oil in 55 gallon drums, I change it myself. Its no fun doing 3 trucks, wifes car, tractors lawn mowers ect but I do it.
I was just thinking about taking my winter truck to a instant oil change for the first time ever this winter so I dont have to lay under it, but I dident, lolj

I think my local garage charged $30(Canadian$)for an oil change and grease. They check it over when it's on the lift. I usually do my own repair and maintenence, but I have too many machines and vehicles, so it's been backing up. For that price, I think it's a good deal.

A local GM/Toyota dealer here does them for $9.99. I use Amsoil and change it every 15k in my diesel and 17k in my Denali. I highly recommend at least looking into the Amsoil, can actully save ya money and provide extra protection.

I can't get them to change out the oil in my Cummins for that! ;8^) The Dodge marketing wer a little slow to smarten up. They used to send me coupons for an oil change and a sebbenty-lebben point service check for $24.95. Took them a while, but they finally started printing on the coupon that this was for a 5 qt. oil change and didn't apply to diesels.

For the service you got, the price sounds about right, even when compared to the chains. Like you, I usually change my own, and the local garage is happy to burn the 20-25 gallons of waste oil I generate in a year. When I do go to a shop, it's usually because I've gotten behind (weather, time . . .) and just need it done. If I think of it, I'll take my own filter with me (most chain shops will cut you a small discount for that), but don't mind theirs being on for the short interval until the next change that I'll likely do myself. The one thing that I will do anytime some one else changes my oil is to raise the hood and lok araound, and look under the vehicle for leaks before ever leaving their yard.

you all got me feeling bad, i always change my own oil, i dont want some dumb kid stripping the drain plug with his air impact or using a cheapie oil filter on my engines,or dry starting the engine after a oil change, if it makes you all feel better my last oil change oil and filters cost me 280.00 and change i did that one myself too, [ 3406 cat in my kenworth]

What do you folks pay for a quart of oil? Cheap Mobil is 2.50 and Pennzoil, castrol and the rest are 3.50-4.00 (non synthetic) here.

I was getting Wal Mart Synthetic super service started out 28 bucks . Then went to 34 then to 38 and now is over $60. The last time I took my car I put all the junk in the right seat floor so they would clean the rest of the floors. They did no floors because"you had stuff on the floor and we will not move anything." So the other three floors were not vacuumed. Sooo I started to go at least 12000 miles between changes in stead if 6000 and make a special effort to point out the clean floors to them. Henry

The no brand stuff like Walmart Superteck can be had for less than a buck a quart on sale. Last time I was in North Dakota a local store called Duckwalls was selling Phillips 66 in 30W, 10-30 and 10-40 for $11.99 for 24 quarts. I bought out both the Hettinger and Bowman stores. Mobil not on sale would be close to that $2.50.

ericlb,Those CAT's will kill you.N14 Cummins oil change at home 195.00.That's buying oil off the shelf.I know it's personal prefrense but CAT's have always been over priced on everything from matainence to parts. That yellow color paint is'nt really yellow, it's Gold.Sorry about the misprint above.

Made an appointment at Pro Lube in Montana last fall. Went to Wal Mart to kill time, bought some new wipers, put them on in the parking lot. Went back to Pro Lube, got the oil changed. The guy said "Your wipers need to be replaced." I said "No thanks."

My last oil change on my 2000 Nissan pickup was $32.00 at a local auto parts store. We don't have any "service stations" left in our small town.

My brother was p.ode went to valvoline instant oil change for his Impala w/3.5 engine $38.00.never went back there again..

I got lazzy last fall and let the Ford shop change the oil on my 95 F250 7.3 Power stroke.
75 bucks!
Well guess i will have to unlazzy my self next oil change.

A good mechanic will "Take a car for a test drive" For just an oil change? aint gonna happen at a quick lube. bill m.

Have to watch all places if you drive a ford.
The 4.6 takes 6 quarts, and the 5.4 takes 7.
They will only put in 5 at 99% of the oil change places.

Where I work, at an industrial equipment shop, I collect the 5 gallon buckets. The guys set them aside for me.
They dump the oil into machines, and move on. I remove the lids and drain the remainder of the oil, and save it for my own use. It's new, top quality diesel oil. I haven't bought any motor oil in years, and have a good supply on hand.
I keep a list of filter numbers with me, and buy new filters at second-hand stores, often for only about .50.
So, changing my own oil doesn't cost me very much.

A bit long. Your N-14 Cummins reminds me of debate with shop foreman a few years ago. Drove for a company with approx 900 Volvos with N-14's. Grease at 10,000 mi, drop oil at 20,000. Home shop had sharp pencilled out at $73.00 for complete service. Bought Rotella 15-40 by tanker load. Could have service done at home shop if within 1,000 mi of schedule.
Anyway, was home for a few days off,had 18,900 on, so wrote it up. Forman denied service, said not within 1,000 mi of schedule, even though told him I was headed for Ca.
2,200 mi later I called shop manager from Ca, heading out to Va. he told me to take it to T A Truck Stop, have nationwide contract. $139.00 special plus water filter ended costing twice what service would have been, foreman got strong words from manager about paying double to save dropping oil 100 miles early. If had waited to get back to home shop would have been 7,000 mi over.
By the way, home shop had lab tests done on all oil drops, sent results to Cummins, they okayed procedure for warranty purposes.

Nope, $9.99 total. Don't know how they do it really. They also service every brand there is. I think that is where they make the money to cover it. Actually if you buy a new vehicle from them it only costs $5.99.

I stopped using Jiffy Lube after I found the plug missing from the rear differential on my truck. Now only my regular mechanic or I change the oil.

I took my 08 F150 to the local Ford Dealer 3 weeks ago. Changed oil, filter, air filter, rotated the tires, cleaned the inside out, cleaned windows inside and out, washed pickup.
had a check list of checking all the fluids, and filling the windshield washer up all for $33.90
I'm very satisfied.

Something must have changed, the air filter alone on my 98 4.6 was $22.50 at a discount auto parts. Oil change with semi senthetic was around $40.00 a year ago. I'm in southeast MI.

I've been going to a local place (Ernie's Rapid Lube) with my car, and they were at $29, but last time, $39. No vacuum, just oil and filter. And check fluids.

Ford dealer is doing them now for a lot less- so going there next time. I think they're doing it as a "loss leader", to get people into their showroom while car is being serviced. Maybe its national, because I see others below mentioning the same thing. Maybe that's one reason Ford is not in the bail out- smart management.

I'm wondering if maybe it's being driven from the top at Ford. When Alan Mullaly was at Boeing, he saw first-hand what happened when a company that used to be legendary for its customer service tried to cut corners.

We pay about $33 for oil change, new filter, vacuum, clean windows, wipe dash, check and fill (if needed) pwr steering fluid, radiator, washer fluid, brake fluid, air filter, hoses, belts.

They do it way faster than we could and you get a coupon to go through their car wash at no charge.

They give you a little card to put on your keychain and they punch it each time you come in. After 8 changes, the 9th is free. Worth the $.

Really good deal - wash and hand wax for $40.00.

Had my sons new pontiac G5 changed at the dealership yesterday.I always do my own,but since it was the first oil change i took it back to the dealer.36 bucks for the oil change.11 bucks for the filter.I can buy 3 for that.
