I sold an item on ebay for 100 dollars.I just got an invoice for 105 dollars in selling fees.I tried using the live chat but they said it was a billing department question and ended the session.I emailed customer support but got no answer. Is there a better way to handle it?

Well all I can say is , you have just been initiated by the legalized crooks of the internet . That's why I quit trying to sell on ebay . Also Paypal does a grand job of putting the bolts to a guy . Paypal billed me 150.00 for services rendered plus extra . I did send the collector 50.00 & told them the story & they even said they wouldn't play their game & pay either . So now paypal has locked my acct . The are loosing several of their big sellers who are setting up their own websites now . Good luck but I think you are fighting a loosing battle .There was about 5 times I used them to collect my money from no payers & crooked sellers . But they kept every cent they collected for me . So I ask , who profits ? God bless, Ken

Something doesn't sound right ? Final value fees are based on the selling price ?
Which catagory did you have it in ? did you have a pile of pictures and fancy do dads ?

I buy and sell on ebay every once in a while and have had no problems so far but Im starting to see a lot of people say stuff like this.

I have to agree with you in triplicate. They now have such a monopoly that they make it impossible for the guy that has something to sell to make any money.

If you do not have a Paypal account or another form of electronic payment acceptance, you cannot even list an item. So that means that if you list an item and accept paypal, you pay a listing fee, a commission and then you surrender part of your payment to paypal. They get you coming and going. Now..this might be OK to the guy that sells 100 items a day (power sellers) but the guy trying to clear out his garage is going to pay through the nose (or at least take 15-20 percent less). This is robbery.

eBay used to be a place that was great to buy and sell but it now is geared to those power sellers that sell schlock. I have found things there that I may have looked a lifetime and never found. not anymore, the guys with things they don't need are discouraged by the ebay policies. THIS SUX. Where or what other sites are out there now more friendly to the small guy? There are things that come up every day I need or think I need but they are not on ebay like they might have been 2-5 years ago.

There used to be a few catagories with a large fee. Don't know what ones. You could have gotten in one. As for the people who complain about the fees It is usuall that people want some thing for nothing! It takes money to run a company try calling a local autioneer! As for pay pal only, granted it is not popular but ebay has to take steps to reduce fraud or the govenment would step in and we all know that external_link-bay would be the greatest thing that could happen. I personally wish they would crack down on deadbeat bidders or make new people put up a fee to bid. That is causing a lot of probles as there is no deterent.

If you want to buy it now without the hassle of bidding, visit Ecrater.

There is a new, up and coming AUCTION site called "Bonanzle", but the last time I looked there wasn't anything listed under the agriculture and forestry category.

I would say you had in the wrong category or had some extras(featured item, etc.). As a small business ebay and and paypal do take quite a cut, but its still cheaper than having a real store and paying for a ton of adverstising. Getting set up with Credit cards is no cheaper than paypal really.
It would be harder to just sell a few things from the garage the way they have got things now. It seems like collector items still sell pretty good though, so it may be worth the extra hassle.

Go to the answer and question forum and register. Its like this forum you can ask other ebayers your question and get their input. Not quick or legal binding but one source of answers from those more into it than me. Personaaly, I'm continuously cleaning out my garage and make 20 or so sales a year on ebay and have not had a problem yet. I have an audience of millions for a few dollars. Still a better deal than any classified and better than the worlds biggest rummage sale (craigslist).

It was used oil tank,to drain crankcase oil into.It came from a harley shop so i listed it under motorcycles. Two pictures and a 5 buck fee for the purple listing banner is all i spent.

A couple years ago I bought a Dodge Caravan on Ebay for parts. It was listed as having a bad engine, but would run to load. Anyhow, I paid 127.50 for it, all that was wrong is it had blown a spark plug out. I retapped the threads, runs fine. What I found out from the seller is by the time he paid listing and final value fees he would have been better off just selling it for scrap. I think he said he made like 17.50 after all the fees were paid. DOUG

When you listed it under motor cycles on Ebay motors they charged you either $80.00 or $100.00 for the listing fee. If you had listed it on Ebay.com you would probably had to pay $2.00 or $3.00. Should have been listed as motorcycle parts. The listing fee should have showed up before you listed the item. Maybe you will get a refund. Tell them you listed in the wrong catagory. DH
