The neighbor has a JD G for sale he said it was overhauled by a JD tech it has engine knock in it now shortly there after overhaul..What is the best and worst case scenario?

Do you have any idea what it might be...I was looking for someone that had knowledge about JD,s....

You don[t say where the knock is comming from. Could be a wrist pin or a journal bearing. If the knock is comming from the pully, maybe it"s the clutch plates. What year G is it. Styled or unstyled? rw

Styled 1946,I haven't heard it run the gentlemen thought it might have to do with the amount of shims to be put in or taken out... he's asking a $1000 fair shape tires Ok.

"I was looking for someone that had knowledge about JD,s"

Post your question over on the JD forum if you want more exposure to those with JD "knowledge".........

I can see this is not the place to ask questions about a tractor....I thought it would be after all it is a tractor forum....

It will require a teardown and inspection. Some are cheap easy fixes, others are labor intensive and expensive. It could be a number of things. The flywheel has come loose, excessive end play on the crankshaft, spun bearings, damaged crank shaft, the connecting rods could be shimmed improperly(if it hasn't been converted to insert bearings)If the ridge at the top of the cylinder wasn't removed, the new rings could be hitting it,loose wristpins, bent connecting rod................
For $1000 it would be worth buying for parts if the tin is good and the wheels and tires are in good shape

Ok thanks for your time I know I'm shooting from the hip here.It was overhauled years ago and did not see much use after and developed an engine noise..I was just looking for another opinion on it. The guy is a trusted man. Have a good day...

Tractor forum? Yes, but the brand specific boards have more knowledgable about the brand readers checking. Your child is sort of sick- do you go to peditrician or a brain surgeon for help?-- after all , they"re both doctors.

This is absolutley a place where you CAN ask questions about a tractor..........BUT you just might have better luck getting more qualified answers over on the JD board.........some of the JD gurus frequent this board, some dont..........however, it's totally up to you how you approach your dilema!

On a 1946 A I had and overhauled, the flywheel developed cracks and had to be replaced. Cracks kept it from being tight on the crankshaft, as I recall.
