i have a bobcat 610 with a wisconsin vh4d engine that needs to be replaced. does anyone have any idea where i can get a good price on one.

There used to be some Amish in Pa. that rebuilt them. I gave them my core and got a rebuilt engine for around $1500. But that was a long time ago, probably in the '80s. I don't recall who or where. Perhaps someone else will know. Good luck.

A guy around here some years ago was putting a small block chevy in place of the Wisconsin. Said it was cheaper to do the coversion than rebuild the Wisconsin. If I would do it now, I would use a V-6.

VH4D is 3 1/4 bore, the D stands for heavy duty
and means Stellite Valves,(Very expensive, very
hard), and hardened valve seats, so it can burn
unleaded gas. I just purchased 4 valves from NAPA
for $120,2 intakes 2 exhausts.(2 cyl-same valves)
Your engine may, most probably is, be made
special for Bobcat, and have a Bobcat specific
crankshaft output, to connect to their powertrain.
It's possible that only a "Bobcat type" VH4D
will connect, though a standard VH4D will work
if you have a good crank and exchange them.
Check it out before purchase. The question has
come up before on YT Forum.

I see them on E-bay all the time. Just type "Wisconsin engine" in the search box, and check out what comes up. Just be careful to communicate with the seller so you know exactly what you're looking at. HTH
Good Luck and God Bless

I don't know what horsepower the VH4D is, but is probably bigger than the Onan that my brothers replaced with a Briggs and Stratton last year. Fairly simple conversion. For something bigger than what you can get with a Briggs or a Honda, I am not sure what would be a simple conversion.
Years ago in the factory where I worked they replaced a small continental in a skid loader with a 1.6L Pinto car engine. The maintenance man went to the junkyard with a tape measure and found one about the same size. They added a belt drive governor like used on combines with car engines and it performed great. I think the original was water cooled, so it wasn't that radical of a conversion.

Why does it need to be replaced? Is yours not rebuildable? I have rebuilt those before and I think the parts are still available.

The VH4D is 30 H.P. Wisconsin's are made to be rebuilt. A new one would cost a fortune. They were very common in swathers and trenchers though. The problem that I've heard is that in a skid steer, they don't get enough air and it causes them to overheat a little. Dave

i know where i can find a new one but i would like to find one already rebuilt. i am just to lazy right now to rebuild the one i have. i would like ot find a rebuilt one in the 1000-1500 range and just save the time on rebuilding this one.

I have rebuilt the 610 engines for over 30 years and I always get a laugh when people say that any VH4D will fit. The Bobcat engine is unique to that application only. I have seen many engines that were not Bobcat originals that either blew up or blew the gears out. I sell a rebuilt for $1700.00 installed with a good rebuilable core. I am in Minnesota.

I am interested in talking to you about a Bobcat 610 VH4D Engine. Where are you located? How can I contact you?
