Farmall M Front Hubs Wheels

I’m working on my 1951 M, and it’s time for the front wheels to be painted and new tires. For some reason, the hub was welded to the rim at some point in the last 58 years. Is it worth the effort to try to save both pieces, or just one of them? Any logical reason why they were welded together?

Looking at eBay, I can get a hub for about $55, front rim for $150+, so I’m thinking this might be the end of the road for this hub, and I’ll work to save the rim and the ears on it. Does this seem right too? Are H hubs the same?

If anybody on here has either part, shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks

I'm with Jim, You can save those hubs and rims. someone handy with a torch can have them separated in no time. Then use your grinder to touch them up.

These wheels were on a tractor that probably had a loader on it. Just get a grinder with a cut-off wheel on it and it'll cut right thru those welds. You will probably go thru about 3-4 cut off wheels.

You could have them sandblasted and paint the rim and the hub with a brush and you still paint two different colors then you wouldn't have to worry about seperating them. Just a thought. I would be tempted to do that!

The welds go around a little bit, thats why I was a little skeptical about being able to get my grinder in there. I have a neighbor with a plasma torch, and grandpa has a O/A, so we will see what happens.
