12 volt conversion confusion

I am converting from a 6 V to 12 V system on my Farmall M tractor and received the conversion kit -- but the instructions are terrible. I see from Bob M's diagrams references to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 but have no idea where these are located on the alternator. Help!

(quoted from post at 14:36:33 02/28/09) Is your kit a one-wire alternator? Often they will have a non-metallic block-off plug on those terminals.

I think it is. There is a black "plug" that is covering two connectors.

I would recomend that you locate someone locally toadvise you with this converson. It is very simple, but can be defeating to newcomer

Can you see the numbers 1 and 2 below the white connector in the photo?

The diode shown is an alternative method if an "idiot light" is not used/desired.

The black plug tells me that your kit has a "one wire" alternator. Wire it up as indicated except for the #1 and #2 wiring, just ignore that part for the moment. It may work fine as a one wire setup. If your not satisfied with the rpm necessary to excite the alternator, go to an auto parts store and buy the regulator plug(about $2), and a diode or indicator light and wire it up as a 3 wire setup. That one wire alternator will work exactly as a stock 3 wire unit with only that plug and wiring added.
