New to me tractor

Picked up a pretty nice Oliver 1755 last week and I think I may have lost it, my dear old dad, who thinks everything should be done in the most difficult way possible, climbed into the cab and says "Boy, I could get used to this" well first off I am no longer a boy, I am 46, second he's the one that said nobody needs a 4wd truck and is constantly borrowing mine when he needs 4wd. Third I don't think I'll be able to use my own tractor cuz he'll be using it all the time, instead of using his old Ford with no cab, no seat suspension, no radio etc. I just think it's funny how something is not necessary till you get it, and then it's the best thing since sliced bread. Just picking on him, I'll let him use it as long as he quits calling me boy. LOL

Yup. My wife's dad didn't think 4WD was neccessary - until his son came home wth one - now dad owns it. He was dead set against have ANY tractor - until his son bought one....

Now her brother hardly ever uses his own tractor because his dad is on it!

Grandpa always had narrow fronts. His biggest argument for sticking with them was that WFEs took too much space to turn, especially when hauling in wagons, in some of the pockets and corners of the yard on the farm, which was laid out when they worked with horses. That little BN could be turned around in the center aisle of the barn, for example.

Anyway, he gave up farming, and my uncle and a partner went into farming about 2500 acres in the neighborhood, mostly rented ground, including Grandpa's. They got into all the newest and biggest equipment they could justify, and all their tractors were big WFEs. So the weather hemmed 'em in one year, and they asked if Grandpa would help them with some plowing.

He climbed down off his first day ever in 80 years plowing on a WFE (power steering to boot!)and wondered why he'd beat himself to death for 50-some of those years on his narrow fronts. After that, he'd call up my uncle every few days to see if there was any tractor drivin' he could help with.

Sounds like my Dad ! You dont need it/it wount work /We never needed it before why now /All reasons in General = Yet every one who looked forword allways got ahead and still does !

I bought a newer improved tractor a few years back and haven't been able to get dad out of it since. I figure if he likes it that much, I'll let him run it. I appreciate the help, even though I get to run the clunker now. Ditto on the pickup. His clutch went out on his 2 wheel drive a couple years ago. Instead of fixing it, he just uses my pickup and then lets me know if "it's acting up". 2 rotors and brake pads later we had front brakes again. Things came off in pieces. Oh well, My son will be driving pretty soon. Guess I'm getting trained.

On the other hand, my dad called me baby (I'm the youngest) until the day he died. Even at 35+ yrs old, it never bothered me, but he used it affectionately and not in a demeaning manner.

Sorry if I made it sound that way, its just kind of a running joke with us when he calls me boy I point to my beer gut and gray hair and ask "Who you calling boy old man?" We are great friends.

You do know that you,CJ could or should be charged with cruelity to an elderly for allowing him in a tin can on wheels. If he can hear now,he won't when he gets out of it.This was written in fun,but it is 100% the truth.

Always called dad Chief or the chief He never could get names straight His dog way named Boy I was called Boy then. Jim then. I mean Bill

My youngest son is 6 ft 9 in and about 280 when he is skinny and I still introduce him to people as my baby. He just kind of cringes.

You may be getting too sensitive.Boy can be used in other ways also.

sure it was not an exclamation of delight? considering it was followed by "I could get used to this"

As in "Oh Boy" abreviated. = surprise, joy, delight.

Just a thought,

I am 48, my dad is in late stage kidney disease. He is always critical of my decisions, always has been. I bought 2 neighbors farms, he warned me not to do it because I was a fool. Ask him now and he will tell you it was his idea and I was bright to follow his advice. I am sure this is his last year of life. Appreciate them when you have them.
