I have used the little belt driven Pierce /Hoof mechanical fly weight governors on gas engines that have no built in governor option.
Your pretty much limited to 2 or 4 weight governors and the linkage set up is pretty well determined by if you need it to work as a variable speed or limiting speed governor.

(quoted from post at 17:48:05 02/24/09) What do you want to know about them?

I pull tractors and was wondering if there was any modifications i could do to my Governors to make them a little more snappy

Add horse power. Longer stroke, larger pistons, less firing chamber.

All of above or any one will help.

I can only speak about the one on my JD 730D and it has a spring which can be adjusted lighter to cause a quicker response to load.

Are you talking about the govs. on tractors, or Woodward govs. that are used all over the world for everything from tug boats to paper mills and power plants? Jack

A mechanical governor is a simple proportional control with feedback. No Integer or Derivative function.
If adjusting the gain too high the governor will start to "hunt" or oscillate.
Droop of approx 10% rpm drop from fast idle to full load is considered the norm.
About all you can do is re-work the adjustment, spring tension/pre-load until it gets snorty.
