Where to get armature?

I need an armature for a JD 430 generator. My local shop wants 140 bucks.I'd think there would be an aftermarket one from china or somewhere.

Sounds about right for an armature. Picked up a generator from the local repair shop yesterday, they had replaced the armature. The tab was $133.50. Playing with old toys is expensive.

I have a book of Arrow parts, a big aftermarket supplier. Not sure if this number is just an Arrow number or perhaps a Lester number. The armature is 1697, used in the very last of the Model M, the 40, the 320, the 420, the Oliver OC3. The original Delco number for the armature is 1917296. Check eBay. Hope this helps.

Try Weitzel's DC Electric,Norwalk, Ohio 419-668-2844. If you do a Ebay search for item # 7947878723 that will put you in the online store. They are good people and ship fast. DH

The armature # Bus Driver gave you fits certain 1948-56 Allis Chalmers,JD 44-59 and Minnie Mo 1952-56. Armature only ,not the whole generator.
Wilson # for armature is 922C.

I looked again in the Arrow book. I do not know how accurate the book may be, or not. But the same armature #1697 is listed for the MM Model V, BF, BG 1952-1953. But it is not listed for any Allis model in the Arrow book. The Allis G uses Arrow #1670 armature, as does some of the earlier M Deere, 1947-1951. I simply report the listings as they appear.

While searching the Arrow book, scanning visually for the number, I seem to have forgotten that your tractor is a 430. Arrow does not list the JD 430. It lists 1956 420, 320. It lists 1958-1959 440, 2 cyl, 6V. I do not recall ever hearing of a JD 440, perhaps a misprint and intended to be 430. But the 440 listing is also armature #1697.

Thanks, guys,i could go with an alternator but i want to keep it original.

I was trying to say it fits what you said it fits plus a couple more applications. Arrow #1670 and 922C are the same as far as I can tell.

Have you found a reference that shows that Arrow #1670 fits the 420, 430 or any JD after the early M? I have not found such a reference. My reading shows #1697 as the correct part. Arrow ceased operations in 1999, but the reference is still useful.

#1101859 gen has arm #1917296 and uses Wilson 922C.
Above gen used in JD M69, M70, and 40.

320,330,420, 430, and 440 used same # gen and arm.
I can't cross to Arrow. I am working off the armature # you gave earlier on.
Aftermarket books don't always agree 100%.

On the JD forum, the original person posting here says that he needs a Delco 1905671 armature. That Delco number does cross to Arrow #1670. But Arrow does not show #1670 as the part for the John Deere after the early Model M. To further the confusion, the website for a Canadian company RCP shows that their number RAG7009 replaces both Delco 1905671 and 1917296. So that leaves that question why Arrow had two different numbers which is inefficient and not typical of the aftermarket suppliers. Good discussion.

Wilson lists 2 #s also but 916C and 922C . When I look in the back of the book to see what 916C fits it is not listed. In the front of book it says fits M , M69 and M70 gen #1101852 arm #1905671 and Wilson # for Arm 916C.
After that I don't know anything.
My guess is 916C and 922C will interchange but just guessing. In 1965 new Wilson arm either # lists for $13.20 probably CDN as it is a Canada Co.
